Karebu 1st Gear November 29, 2008 Share November 29, 2008 (edited) Only recently I hear loud knocking sound when I turn my steering. Initially the sound comes when I turn 2 T (not full lock), and now even when it's 1 T it knocks. And sometimes when driving I turn it it knocks also. Also, to keep the car going straight I need to keep my steering wheel at 10-4 position (deteriorated from a 9.30-3.30). What could be wrong? (wheels are balanced, pressure checked too) Edited November 29, 2008 by Karebu ↡ Advertisement
Throttle2 Supersonic November 29, 2008 Share November 29, 2008 How old is your car? seems like some bearing is rubbing against something. Could be the rubber bushings for the steering disintegrated over time.
Ody_2004 Turbocharged November 29, 2008 Share November 29, 2008 Could be steering rack, steering column and tie rods. Do send in to check soon as steering issue could be dangerous.

Karebu 1st Gear November 30, 2008 Author Share November 30, 2008 I went down yesterday and apparently the end of the tie rod was loose, completely loose (the nut could be turned by hand) - in fact it was held there only by the safety pin. To think I've been driving for some time already. Thanks all for response

Blue850r Clutched November 30, 2008 Share November 30, 2008 After you changed steering ball joint or any steering components, you need to do a wheel alignment which cost about $60 to $80. The your steering position will be perfect like god.
Snowball Neutral Newbie March 10, 2009 Share March 10, 2009 Can someone offer some advice. I am also experiencing some knocking sounds apparently coming from the steering wheel. Sent to TC a few times but still unable to rectify. SA says that no mechanical fault with the car. When stationary, a light pull and let go of the steering to the left, there is a knocking sound, but to the right there is no sound(steering wheel still in the straight position). When moving, occasionally kocking sounds can be heard when steering to the left over uneven roads, steering right is fine. Thanks. ↡ Advertisement
