Chongster 6th Gear November 23, 2008 Share November 23, 2008 (edited) the chances of the branch above falling on your head and killing you is higher. or you choking on your dinner. or falling over and biting your tongue. or killed by a tiger that escaped from the zoo. or a fridge thrown from a window. or a plane crashing...into your house while you were watching TV. you get the drift. if you really got infected by HIV like this, it just means someone up there needs you. no escape. by the way, the answer is no.... for all the havoc it wreck, the HIV virus is an incredibly weak virus, and dies very quickly. Poortraveller 1st Gear November 23, 2008 Author Share November 23, 2008 for all the havoc it wreck, the HIV virus is an incredibly weak virus, and dies very quickly. interesting ... so saying once the virus leave the body, it will die immediately? we will get the virus thru sexual intercourse, sharing of needle or even shaving blade but why not in this case? lets take example of shaving blade ... a HIV carrier uses the balade, cut itself and I use the same blade and cut myself ... i got the virus ... but in the case of mosquito? the virus die in the mosquito body? Silver_blade Turbocharged November 23, 2008 Share November 23, 2008 Chongster is right. It will not. That was one of the fear many had in the 80's, when it 1st made news in s'pore. Some also afraid that they will get it in swimming pool, etc..
Nolicense Turbocharged November 23, 2008 Share November 23, 2008 but until now, people who die of aids, why the cremate the body almost immediately, cannot bury. then the bed sheet and pillow all take go and burn. they still do that now right? Altivo 3rd Gear November 23, 2008 Share November 23, 2008 no... you will not be infected. http://www.rci.rutgers.edu/~insects/aids.htm Mosquitoes Digest the Virus that Causes AIDS When a mosquito transmits a disease agent from one person to another, the infectious agent must remain alive inside the mosquito until transfer is completed. If the mosquito digests the parasite, the transmission cycle is terminated and the parasite cannot be passed on to the next host. Successful mosquito-borne parasites have a number of interesting ways to avoid being treated as food. Some are refractory to the digestive enzymes inside the mosquito's stomach; most bore their way out of the stomach as quickly as possible to avoid the powerful digestive enzymes that would quickly eliminate their existence. Malaria parasites survive inside mosquitoes for 9-12 days and actually go through a series of necessary life stages during that period. Encephalitis virus particles survive for 10-25 days inside a mosquito and replicate enormously during the incubation period. Studies with HIV clearly show that the virus responsible for the AIDS infection is regarded as food to the mosquito and is digested along with the blood meal. As a result, mosquitoes that ingest HIV-infected blood digest that blood within 1-2 days and completely destroy any virus particles that could potentially produce a new infection. Since the virus does not survive to reproduce and invade the salivary glands, the mechanism that most mosquito-borne parasites use to get from one host to the next is not possible with HIV. Chongster 6th Gear November 24, 2008 Share November 24, 2008 (edited) once injested, the virus dies. also, you need a sufficient amount of virus to get infected, it's not like one virus, and you are dead. the immune system actually can kill the HIV virus, but as the virus replicates and mutates very fast, it usually ends up overwhelming the immune system. But you still need to get a sufficient amount of virus in the first time, and which is why even unprotected sex, the risk is like 3%, and for kissing, almost zero. a lot of infection occurs in Africa and among drug abusers also because of weakened immune system from malnourishment etc as well. so even your infected razor example is probably very very rare, if it do happen and not something you pluck out of thin air. the virus always need a human medium (blood, saliva, body fluids) to live, and once exposed it is dead. in a drop of blood, it can live for a very short while, in a puddle of blood maybe a bit longer, but once the blood dried, it's dead. Familymanz 3rd Gear November 24, 2008 Share November 24, 2008 call me paranoid.... but Im more worried abt the childcare system.... there is no screening of such in Childcare centre enrolment, and we all know young children/toddler usually resort to biting if they cannot be understood or when venting frustration. maybe tats the reason why mandatory screening comes abt during pregnancy in recent years? Some also afraid that they will get it in swimming pool, etc.. Haha... I once heard an even more ridiculous possibly way of getting AIDS. They said, when you pee into the toilet bowl and if the water in the toilet bowl happens to have the virus, it may travel into your didi when te stream of the urine is maintained long enough. Haha... macam electricity. So next time go toilet and pee, must shoot in short burst so that before it reaches the water, you must stop the pee.
