I dont know your car model etc, so how to guess? You can be sure that the price difference between a lambo and chery is a lot. If anyhow guess, I think two shocks will set you back about $500 inclusive of labour if you use ORIGINAL parts. Should be cheaper if you use OEM parts or others.

From what I know, shock absorbers are vital components in your car. Just as brakes and tires are.

Correct me if I am wrong.

Shock absorbers do play a part in the functioning of your ride, their braking and so on so forth. Like brakes and tyres, I believe cost for a good set of shock absorbers (as long as they attain the level of performance as your original parts or even better) should not be compromised and discounted.

So far leak not detected, looks pretty dry, or maybe the shocks are gas driven and not oil driven.

since we are on this topic.. can anyone share what's the difference between gas and oil driven (of course.. one is oil..unimpressed.gif)

such as,

lifespan (if, subjected to the same usage/condition)

cost

comfort?

btw, is the gas one call coilover?

I changed mine around 100,000km. It wasn't quite satisfactory after 50k but it wasn't considered as spoilt. After that I changed to new ones which was a different brand and it became quite good.

Normally you don't change the springs. Your springs determines the height of the car. Your shocks determines the rock & roll, bouncing effects of the car.

Just check the dampers as follow:

a. Oil leaks

b. Press down and see if the car body rebound and stabilise, and not oscillate many times.

If any of the above, it's time to change the dampers. Spoilt dampers are dangerous to handling.

Ya, but the shocks are still damping well, it is just the occasional creaks that disturbs me. It passes the bounce test etc.

Does worn shocks increase the road noise? My 100k+ 3 yr+ Honda City seems a lot noisier than I remember...

No, symptons of worn shocks

1) Car may be more bouncy.

2) Nose dive during hard braking

3) Oil leaks if using hydraulics

4) etc etc

Bro,i recommend you search for Autosaver.I'm no relationship to this company, just that they give you a quotation of how much it cost and you can decide whether to change at their outlet or not.

Most Jap cars use KYB (Kayaba) as OEM. They have gas & oil.

Chin Hon at Race Course Rd has them as well as other places. I got mine from Chin Hon as their prices were best at the time I was changing.

Ask for the Made In Japan shocks otherwise u might end up with those made in some other lower quality country.

I got the made in Japan gas shocks & they lasted >3 years till I sold the car. Very lasting & good damping too.

Now got Monroe Active or something like that. Similar to their previous Sensatrac. I tried the Sensatrac b4 but I think KYB is more suitable for my Jap car. Firm & stable ride with the KYB. [thumbsup]

Hi guys, I've a 11mth old Lancer GLX. Recently the squeaking sound from the rear left is getting louder. Checked, no oil leak. So I supposed is due to the bushings? If yes, anyone has idea roughly how much to replace?
