Hmmm... that's something interesting.... think I'll check mine out to see if that happens (i.e. miss a via point & it'll asks to go back to it).

But if that happens, you can always stop the navigation. Then just put your favourite as the destination and that should solve it.

Please go to malsingmap's forum and look at the sales folder. You'll find great bargains there for Garmin, where people import them directlt from the states or europe..... it can be as cheap as $2XX only for the most basic model.

I've lost track of the models as there's many new ones coming out. Go to garmin webby to see which one suits you.

I wanted to get the 760 model but it was real expensive (about $1K) ~ 1 year ago...... now there's new models out already.

If I put my starting point then my destination as my house CP, I wil fill the mid-way points as locations along my route back.

Sometimes the mid-point is like Thomson Plaza & I pass it(Upp Thomson Rd) but too far for the GPS to register I have crossed it. The GPS keeps telling me to U turn & keeps looking for a new route for me to get to Thomson Plaza. [hur]

It is good cos if u miss a mid-point, it really helps u to get to it but the bad part is if u just pass-by & the GPS does not realize u have already passed it, it gets all confused. [dizzy]

What I do is to go to "Advance" & press the icon "Re-calculate route".

You could be right here.... its something I've not tested out.... I seldom use via points and usually just navigate directly to the destination and let the GPS calculate the route to take. If I stray off course... the GPS will auto re-calculate to get me to my destination.

I didnt get the phone/GPS cos I always tot u must pay additional to use the GPS facility as u must register on a monthly basis but recently my fren says he use the Nokia 6110 Navigator & he dont need to pay additional to use the GPS [confused]

Plus he downloaded the Garmin maps for free & can use both systems in his phone.

So u really need to check around carefully to get as much correct info as possible.

The phone/GPS is much better cos u carry it around with u everywhere & can b used even when u walking around.

U need to check if the electronics fair is still on at Suntec. Im not sure as it was during the weekend.

i found out the hard way ... bought a iPhone and asked the sales guy who is the map provider and he cant answer ... so when home and play around ...

during line registration, had clear instruction to the sales guy that i dun want to activate the GPRS service cus dun want to pay for stuff that i accidentally use ... so when home and start to play around with the iPhone ...

when i play around the GPS, found out it uses google map and i was thinking to myself, tats cool! they install the entire google map into the iPhone ...

then later, found out something fishy ... called up the customer service and they told me the GPRS is not off and I'm using the GPRS to DL data ... damn ... now waiting for the bill to come, if they charge me GPRS usage, I sure complain all the way up to the top of their food chain ...

so i think this is the confusing part where ppl say they been charged using the GPS ...

e.g. iPhone have GPS but uses google map and in order for it to work properly, it need to download the map into the phone to work with the GPS (mobile data usage charge) whereas, GPS unit has the map in the unit and no downloading is necessary and therefore free.

hope i'm right about this issue

You need to update your GPS maps....

I am using Mapking with a updated map of M'sia...can even drive into plantation to hunt for seafood !!

Blank means that the map is not updated....from my updated map....go KL only 1 glitch only....and its because of road work....so not the GPS fault. [:p]

===============

Via points or mid-points r useful if u got several places to go or several pple to send back. Just enter their destinations & it will guide u to their homes, one by one.

Just put your start point & your home as final destination & all the others under mid-points & let the GPS do its stuff. [thumbsup]

Mine re-calculates (automatically) the new route if I miss a turning very quickly. Maybe in 5-10 seconds only. [drivingcar]

Thats why I also kept getting different info on what is what. Seems even the sales pple dont know their stuff. [thumbsdown]

I only found out the Nokia phone can use as a GPS device for free after I bought my Shinco GPS.

I actually prefer to have the GPS in the phone so I wil have it with me all the time. The stand alone GPS is too bulky to carry around everywhere I go. Also the Li-ion battery only lasts about 2 hours on a full charge, so not that practical unless u have a way to charge it on the go.

In the car, I just plug it into the ciggy lighter socket.

yes, garmin will happen ... cus when u select a mid point, your telling the unit your going there ... so die die you must reach there b4 the unit bring you to the next destination

=====================

I think all GPS wil do the same cos mine is NOT Garmin & it does it too. Prob a standard feature on GPS sets.

Long ago (>10 years back) we use GPS out at sea & set "way-points" to bring us to fishing spots on our way out & also on the way back.

Bad thing is if the boatman sees u with a GPS, he will not bring u to any good spots cos he scared u lock it in & steal his good spots next time u go with another boatman. [laugh]
