Pisces69 6th Gear November 18, 2008 Author Share November 18, 2008 Got it at 199 but next day saw it selling for 179 at the electronics fair at Suntec. Damm easy with it. It holds your hand all the way. Even go ulu places at night no problem. Sure wont get lost again.
Shull Turbocharged November 18, 2008 Share November 18, 2008 now the fair still on? i thinking whether to get a PDA Phone with built in GPS or a separate GPS unit..
Hiphiphoray 6th Gear November 18, 2008 Share November 18, 2008 Wahhh...good pricing. Mine almost wana spolit liao. My girl keep pressing it like computer game. One common problem is GPS dont really work in ulu places in malaysia. My friends tried thier other brand GPS too. Same as mine, just blank blank one. In places just off tebrau highway nia. In KL also give imaginary left/right turnings that simply doesnt exist. So dont go too far off from the main road....even with GPS.
Pisces69 6th Gear November 18, 2008 Author Share November 18, 2008 I didnt get the phone/GPS cos I always tot u must pay additional to use the GPS facility as u must register on a monthly basis but recently my fren says he use the Nokia 6110 Navigator & he dont need to pay additional to use the GPS Plus he downloaded the Garmin maps for free & can use both systems in his phone. So u really need to check around carefully to get as much correct info as possible. The phone/GPS is much better cos u carry it around with u everywhere & can b used even when u walking around. U need to check if the electronics fair is still on at Suntec. Im not sure as it was during the weekend.

Pisces69 6th Gear November 18, 2008 Author Share November 18, 2008 If I waited 1 day, I cud have got it at 179 only. As with all electronic stuff, just wait awhile & the price keeps dropping. Maybe next time can get for 50bucks only? I was told it only has the official maps of the country & as we all know, some of the official maps in MY r really outdated. Anyway it's still much better than nothing. If got no maps, I just keep driving around till it picks up the "mapped" areas again. I can then use it to hit the highways & those r pretty straight-forward. If got no maps, I can log the "way-points" at turns/intersections so I can still find my way back safely. I can also use it on the boat when I go fishing. It can mark all those good fishing spots.
Pisces69 6th Gear November 18, 2008 Author Share November 18, 2008 I really not sure. Damm confusing all the gadgets nowadays. Those salesmen also seem like dont really know or maybe trying to con pple to buy. Even this set I bought, was collected from the shop by my daughter on Friday cos she was passing by there. The damm SD card with the maps was defective & they also "forgot" to give her the free gift of a 2GB SD card for the music player. Anyway I went down today & got it all sorted out. I might try to use the free 2GB card to download some other newer maps & see if can work or not.

RadX Moderator November 18, 2008 Share November 18, 2008 see la cheapskate...never buy garminin first place...now:LL buy
Pisces69 6th Gear November 18, 2008 Author Share November 18, 2008 Ya u r right. Shinco cannot use other party maps. Must use only Mapking & Malsin maps. They said I can buy the maps for Thai & Indo for abt 100each. But im sure they wil b some smart alec who wil come out with some pirated maps for a fraction of the cost. Must just look around abit. Acevin Clutched November 18, 2008 Share November 18, 2008 I also hv a Shinco GPS. My model is GM3510 ($279). Bought for few mths, but yet to update the map even though the agent had send me updated MapKing Map. To me, its worth the buy as its user friendly, and most importantly, its MapKing map! Garmin is using MalSing map which some forum mentioned that it's not able to bring u to ulu plc or nitty gritty road details. Overall, IMO, I like it and feel its worth the buy esp with Mapking map. Nkps 1st Gear November 18, 2008 Share November 18, 2008 i never buy garmin lar.... anyway, i dun need a GPS... the shinco still resting in my car, the last time i use it was like half a year ago...
Nkps 1st Gear November 18, 2008 Share November 18, 2008 mapking is useful when you roam singapore street, juz key in postal code and it will bring u there, but when you are in malaysia, u can only use malsing map, not mapking.

Beei 1st Gear November 18, 2008 Share November 18, 2008 Felt that malsing maps is enough for most common places in Malaysia..
Pisces69 6th Gear November 18, 2008 Author Share November 18, 2008 The Mapking maps r by Singapore Land Authority so it only has SG maps. If go MY then must switch to Malsin maps. I tot it wud b automatic? Anyway I really new to this set so I just trying to see what it can do & how good it really is. Do u know how to let it "plan" your route if u have several stops along the way. Like if u sending 3 pple back, how to let it guide u to all the stops with the least distance travelled. I still cant figure that out? ↡ Advertisement
