I also drive a chevy spark, less than 800cc but it serves me well. 4 x 60kg adults inside no problem going from jurong to tampines.

It might not be fast, but its good! (opposite of what my wife thinks of me [laugh] )

IL-6 is not nice to have for E60. It is basic requirement. This is a 1.5 tonne machine. It is 238mm shorter than Merc W221 S class.

For IL-4, under full passenger load, need to extract every nm of torque.

This has nothing to do wif hokkien saying.

i am saying this "need" of yours is relative. Some may find that they need it, some is ok with a 4 potter. This is because some will find the 520i pretty fast if they are driving some smaller engined car. This is the point i want to make.

And i am not saying a 6 potter is not good. It is definately better than the 4IL just that it is all relative to what is good and what is not. No car is perfect!

Go to BMW-SG & read d comments from owner of E60 N46B20.

My point is not fast. It is whether it make mechanical sense for a 4 potter to pull a 1.5tonne machine especially fully laden wif passenger & cargo.

Power is something that is never enough.... The 520i was not designed/marketed to be a fast sports car. It is a cruiser, and a comfortable one at that.

As long as it can ferry 5 person comfortably, why not? And if you read more reviews from BMW-SG, i dont see anyone complaining that their car will move backwards on steep slope with a full load. Unless that happens, i dont see why it doesn't make mechanical sense.

The basic element of mechanical sense for me is that the car is able to move forward when engage in a forward gear and not moving in the opposite direction.

i am sure a 525 will be more powerful for you. Its relative.

Dragging gear doesnt mean it doesn't have enough strength to climb the slope. It is still able to do so with more effort. Not that it cannot go up slope after trying very hard

Any decent car will have the power to tackle slopes while fully laden, albeit with a bit of struggle for some. But the main thing here is whether you wanna spend 140k on a car and hear its engine straining to climb a slope with 5 on board (which is kinda unfitting for a luxury car). At this price level, one expects a certain level of comfort, handling and power.

ppl will start laughing @ those cars Esp during cold weather when u can see white smoke (or water vapour) coming out from one side of the exhaust but not the other 2 "tailpipes"

I think only cold wet night here, you can tell whether those are real one. Also those that look spick-and-span is probably the fake one [laugh].

Regards,

not just that...some of them the exhausts are not aligned...slanted or tilted so can tell that its fake...wost one i encountered in my workplace is that the owner disabled his rear exhausts...and ran a center muffler only...still remembered my foreman asking me to write down this remark on the feedback form..."rear muffler and piping to center muffler missing! to install back original exhaust" [laugh][laugh][laugh]

not anytime soon...they've just launched the facelifted version not too long ago...the new 7 is out already BTW...and this car has a 80GB HDD drive in it...12Gb allows you to RIP cds and store it into its system [crazy] rest is used by NAVI

My previous car was a Merc W124 E200. It is also 1.5 tonne, with less than 120bhp. That is a real underpowered car, but yet, at the top end of the torque, it is quite fast. Overtaking or coming out of slip road would need some advance planning. Having that car for quite long, I think any car would be more power than this old Merc.

Now I am driving a C180 (the previous model), supercharged, 143 bhp, much more powerful, but less power at the top end as the power is in the mid range.

When I test driven the 520i and 523i back to back, about 3 months ago, my impression was the 520i is certainly much faster and more powerful than the W124 (also the W124 has 4 speed, the 520i not sure how many speed but certainly the gear change is better). It is enough for Singapore use. But it is not as powerful as the smaller and lighter C180.

For the 523i, it is certainly a bit faster if you accelerate (you need to press the pedal harder in the 520i to get that kinda power). The engine is a bit smoother, but I can live with the 520i. That was about 3 months back. PML has discontinued the 523i now, I think.

In the end, I still stick to my Merc because the depreciation for my Merc is very high, like losing 55k in 3 years, so I am not changing now, although the PML rep actually told me they can offer at 140k for the 520i.
