I bought my BMW from Jack Cars 2.5 years back and despite TWM collapsed, they took over the warranty with Auto Spritz. Had a few issues ranging from alternator, leaking radiator and air con panel and they honored their warranty and replaced them promptly. Never had any bad experienced with them.

The lesson I learned is never buy PI cars especially from Jack Cars. You really do not get any assistance. This gearbox issue is a big problem globally for VW. At least the authorized agent will try to help by extending warranty to 5 years or recall the cars. PI cars owners are on their own

The gearbox problem for 7 speed DGS and recall of cars is a problem that affects not only Singapore. PI car owners are on their own "when s--t hits the fence". At the authorized agent will extend warranty to 5 years or recall the affected cars.

There truth is probably very little PIs can do but I would expect some form assistance instead of looking for excuses to void my warranty.

Not totally on their own if they know how to make use of the lemon law. But can only claim up to 10K only if owners go to small claims tribunal. Better dan sit there do nothing.

There are certain risk when buying from PI. Depending on the car make.

Another deceit that I just discovered from buying my car from Jack Cars is that the savings from buying PI cars are less than what it appears on the surface. I have checked recently and discovered that my car's OMV is less compared to similar cars' sold by authorized agents, 35k vs 41-42k. I cannot understand why the OMV of a car brought in by PI vs agent can differ by so much 6-7k. My guess is probably by under declaring the OMV which translates to tax savings. Example, tax savings is around 15k for lower OMV of 6.5k. How did they manage to get the approval from LTA??? Eventually when we scrap the car 10 years later, we will get 3k less. While we may save 20-25k from buying the car, most of the savings are actually paid out from paying less taxes and lower PARF.

Just beware!

it's the same for most PI car...my ex car was also lower OMV but with higher specs compare to local AD.

That's one point you must take note abt OMV issues

While it is reasonable to expect PI cars to have slightly lower OMV (3-5%) than agent's cars but a 15-20% difference is too much. Hopefully there is no foul play as I sincerely do not want to be a party of it.

Those dealers or should I say salesman who underdeclare the OMV of cars to evade taxes have been properly dealt with by the authorities as reported in the newspapers. So not to worry on this front.
