Bumper Scrapes - Remedy

I was reversing into an isolated lot at the top of a MSCP at Ghim Moh. I noticed a lamp pole that had its bottom 3 feet encased in concrete located within the boundary of the lot. I took special care in reversing and was solely dependent on the reverse sensor to tell me when to halt. And so the beeping begin, and even as I near the concrete pillar the beeping frequency didn't change. All these while the beeper has been accurate, but this time, it failed me. The long continuous beep didn't come. Instead, there was a sickening crunch, when my bumper contacted the flat faced concrete that protects the lamp pole. I came out to examine the wound and found 2 surface gash, and one small gourge - all black marks contrast against my pearl white bumper.

 

I had a few remedies in mind, but not sure which works best:

 

1) get it puttied and resprayed

 

2) get touch up paint and touch up the gash and gourge

 

3) stick a piece of white sticker over the area

 

4) use those black rubber bumper guard and stick over the marks

 

Anybody tried any of these?

i choose 1 and 5) use the mirrors, if in doubt, open the doors and check back

or you can leave it alone until you collect more dings and send it for respray?

Hi bro, sorry to hear that.I had a serious scrap on the front bumper and had it puttied and resprayed at AMK (Carhub or Motorhub?) can't remember the name. It is just next to Lye Design @ 4th floor if I recall correctly. Workmanship quit good and cost me about $135

 

I'll go for option 1

bro how long they took to do that.. was hoping all can be done within a day (ie send in morning n collect evening)

 

me actually also looking at repairing my rear bumper.. same as TS.. i reversed into 1) lamp post, 2) construction barrier, 3) pillar.. all due to objects out of areas reverse sensors could sense..

better for u to 'collect' more scratches den go for touch up.....

I would get a workshop to heat the affect portion of the bumper, putty it and have the whole bumper resprayed.

i will suggest option 1. I will avoid option 4 if your car is the merc because it will look....... with the black strip, i don't think it looks nice that way

Erm. ..sent in around 10 am and got me Princess back at 2 to 2.30pm

 

In the meantime, I went AMK Hub for movie and lunch.

 

Can bargain if it may take longer but I think better not do a rush job, nice and steady then everything swee swee

 

You go in at 4th floor, Lye Design is on the left and they are on the right.

 

Have to go one round before you arrive at shop becos it is a one way narrow road.

 

Can try other places that MCF bros recommend, no problem one

go for 1.. shd cost you anything from 120 to 200 max..

 

give them one whole day, i.e. 8-9am to 6pm..

 

let the putty settle down and also for the paint to be baked..

 

they can do it within half a day but few months down the road and you will see the result of the rush job

Good advice, especially 5) but too late. Gonna pay the price for depending on technology.

 

Saw a brand new 7 series reversing into a fire hydrant. I thought it had all round bumper sensors but got worried when he continued backing up. Despite shouting at him to stop (I was walking alongside the pavement), he chose to trust his surround sensors and ended up with a cracked rear lens and deeply dented bumper. So advice 5) seems like the best remedy after all.

Thanks. I felt for my bumper, an inanimate object, when it happened. $135 sounds like the going price these days.

 

Mine's pearl white, so it's important I go to a paintshop that does a proper job of mixing the paint.

Actually I already have a ready sticker. But to stick onto one side of the bumper looks lopsided. To stick and identical sticker on both sides of the bumper looks overdone.

 

But like you said, better to accumulate more wounds and get them all repaired all in one go.

You're probably right - black bumper guard on pristine white bumper - sticks out like sore thumbs.

Quick true. Putty/Paint jobs needs curing time. Seen the results on my dad's car.

 

Have you heard of ChuanCraft in Alexandra Village? Heard some good things about their workmanship.

If your car is that, i don't think you would feel the pinch to go for option 1.

 

Cool car you have there though... but remember next time don't trust the sensors too much, the mirrors are there for a reason.

 

 

i bet if i was driving your car and i reversed into the wall i will drop my balls. no money pay repair fees lol

The problem when people rely too much on technology.

 

If it not too obvious, maybe just live with it, if not, one time heart pain go respray ba, becos no matter how you touch up or cover, in your mind, you still know at that paticular spot, there is imperfection.
