Kelpie 2nd Gear November 6, 2008 Share November 6, 2008 You can almost tell whether a car is heavily TCed just by closing in, passing by it or when it is in stationery position at junction or traffic lights. Do you think the loud noise produced is annoying and a form of pollution to the roads? Some also commented that stock Japanese TCed cars produced the most noise compared with their Conti competitors. In the pursuit of power, do you also give in to loud noise and forget about comfort. I'm of the view that a fast street car need not be a noisy car. Zerstorer 1st Gear November 6, 2008 Share November 6, 2008 It's the modified aftermarket exhausts that are noisy. Stock turbo cars are actually quiet and refined. The turbo actually serves to reduce the exhaust noise.

Forexter 2nd Gear November 6, 2008 Share November 6, 2008 Why would a turbo charged car be noisy?
Zippaboy 4th Gear November 6, 2008 Share November 6, 2008 you must listen to my friend WRX STI man. it's so quiet, even some impreza TS are nosier. actually the rumbling sound is caused more by the boxer engine. some sleeper cars you don't even know there are TC-ed. Kelpie 2nd Gear November 6, 2008 Author Share November 6, 2008 Don't have to move already very noisy. So the noise is caused by the exhaust even when the car is at stationery? Wonder then, why so many TCed cars like to have noisy exhaust plying the roads . Regards,
Raiders Neutral Newbie November 6, 2008 Share November 6, 2008 Like how? Ferrari with picanto exos? Evos with normal lancer exhaust? Stock TC cars are not really that noisy and loud unless mods are done, for most at least. I think is really down to the person itself, how much tolerance the person have for TC cars rather than what u stated above
Nonetheless Clutched November 6, 2008 Share November 6, 2008 (edited) it should be due to noise caused by exhaust changed by the owner, usually when u see those super noisy rex/evo or so, and u notice the loud deep mellow they give, look at their exhaust, usually can fit ur whole fist into it Edited November 6, 2008 by Nonetheless
Forexter 2nd Gear November 6, 2008 Share November 6, 2008 They change to bigger exhaust because of the unrestricted flow. If there is a good flowing exhaust which is quiet, please let me know, I am looking for 1.

So it seems like most TCed cars would have their exhaust modded to achieve "high-end" or purely for "sound" effect? Wouldn't it be uncomfortable to drive around with the "GONG GONG GONG" sound all the way? Regards,
Forexter 2nd Gear November 6, 2008 Share November 6, 2008 Yes, you are right, I am familiar with those exhaust. But I am still using my stock exhaust and my car is quieter than some cars which are not turbocharged.

IMHO, it is not about unrestricted flow, it is a question whether there is a need in the 1st place? Regards,

Raiders Neutral Newbie November 6, 2008 Share November 6, 2008 some go for sound, appreciating the loud scream from exos. some wanted pure performance, which is freaking loud and high performance same time. is hard to gauge the defination of "loud" personally i dun feel the noise with LTA type of exos unless my foot suddenly cramp and rev over 5k which covers my radio sound. Zerstorer 1st Gear November 6, 2008 Share November 6, 2008 1)For ego: loud exhausts sound more macho 2)For more power:a less restrictive exhaust will unlock more engine power..but that means reducing on the sound absorbtion properties to achieve it.
