Spain Lets Jobless Postpone Half of Mortgage Payments

Nov. 3 (Bloomberg) -- Spain will allow unemployed workers to put off paying half their monthly mortgage payments for two years, Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero said today, part of a series of measures aimed at softening the impact of a shrinking economy.

The postponed payments, up to a maximum of 500 euros ($640) a month, will be repaid from January 2011 in installments, Zapatero told a news conference in Madrid today. The measure, which applies to mortgages under 170,000 euros ($218,000), could be used by more than 500,000 people, he said.

While the government will guarantee the payments due from 2011, the banks will bear the cost of the two-year postponement, said a spokeswoman at the Finance Ministry, who declined to be identified in line with policy.

South Korea announces billions in extra stimulus spending

the south korean government are helping out to save their own people.

Another 3.4 trillion would be used to help small and medium-sized firms, farmers and fishermen.

One trillion won would be used to help low-income households and 1.1 trillion to support local governments.[thumbsup]

what is our own government helping instead of squeezing the people dry?

increasing electricity tariff??more ERPs??increasing their own salaries??[thumbsdown]

True true.. [nod] Singpore is money-minded like China.

But at least we don't add melamine to our dairy products and eggs to make more money.

Or god-knows-what-else to other products.

Sg Gahment run the country like a profit oriented organisation.

They create those profit margin big big industry like Singtel, Spore Power, Transit, etc, and put the key personnel into the organisation.

As for the ministry dept head, if you cant peform, their head on chopping board, unless they have a relationship something like Anwar favourite past time activity.

this should only be on a case-by-case basis. the gahman will never allow itself to be a welfare state cos this may have great negative impact on SG as SG only treasure resource is manpower. imagine, everyone lives on welfare, SG how to survive....

i do agree with him, nobody including the gahman owe u a living..... the success of many old guards in business rely on themselves.... that is the spirit and that is true survival skill....

THE PAP Community Foundation (PCF) is setting aside $1million to help low-income families with children in its kindergartens. The one-off aid amount for each eligible child comes to $100.

To be disbursed in two lots of $50 each next month and in June, the money may be used to cover the child's kindergarten fees.

In order that the funds benefit more families, each family - whose household income should be $2,000 or less - can only make one application.

GET REAL PEOPLE.....$100 is a very big amount [whip]
