Niltrams 3rd Gear October 27, 2008 Share October 27, 2008 Umm pardon me, but how to tell ? Thanks
Whyeme Clutched October 28, 2008 Share October 28, 2008 ya bro how to tell the exact temp? our temp gauge looks sth like the fuel gauge leh...no numerical markings... or we have to install separate temp gauge then can?
Yc86 Clutched October 28, 2008 Share October 28, 2008 I believe he has an aftermarket gauge installed. My water temp used to hang around 76+degC (closer to 70 on a cool night) when driving and sometimes can reach 92+ in traffic jams.
Botakkatob Neutral Newbie October 28, 2008 Author Share October 28, 2008 yup,i have a aftmarket water temp gauge installed, during stops at traffic lights,it hit 95deg,thought smthins wrong with my coolent
Niltrams 3rd Gear October 28, 2008 Share October 28, 2008 I see, thanks! Don't mind getting a gauge for myself too. Niltrams
Silvertuc Neutral Newbie October 28, 2008 Share October 28, 2008 Just to share with you what I observe. The needle at the water temp gauge always around 40 to 45% of the whole scale - that means slightly below half no matter driving or stopping.
Botakkatob Neutral Newbie October 28, 2008 Author Share October 28, 2008 so is that a norm?
Niltrams 3rd Gear October 28, 2008 Share October 28, 2008 Yeah, slightly worrying cos it doesnt seem to heat up much, but maybe my radiator's doing a good job too.
Botakkatob Neutral Newbie October 28, 2008 Author Share October 28, 2008 hahaha, cool,bt dude,as said,my stock water temp gauge is always less thn half,bt the aft market 1 shows 90+deg
Kyojin 1st Gear October 28, 2008 Share October 28, 2008 high temps can mean a leak in cooling system (cannot hold pressure) or low coolant level.
Kyojin 1st Gear October 28, 2008 Share October 28, 2008 is ur fan permanently on? do u know if previous owner took out thermostat? these would lower water temp quite a bit. and its not good for fuel consumption - as engine is not at optimum temperature. By the time it shows in the red zone, GG already. Probably see steam venting from the bonnet first. I also noticed on most cars, it shows below half even though it is a hot and humid day. perhaps to give car owners less things to worry about. Had mine reach the red zone before, when the coolant pipe burst.. so at least the gauge is still working. Always thought it was a formality only. Botakkatob Neutral Newbie October 28, 2008 Author Share October 28, 2008 so am i right to say that i shld check my radiator out?as im always hitting 90+deg during traffic stops?but when im driving on the eway, its always 60-70+
Starsaaa Neutral Newbie October 28, 2008 Share October 28, 2008 Hi, fyi the numbers differs alot when u have different mods in ur car. Eg, if u have a aftermarket thermostat in ur car, u will have a different set of readings. There goes the same if u have installed a extra fan, engine cooler, aftermarket radiator cap and spark booster etc. Different combinations yield different set of readings. For me, the cold engine lite goes off at 54 degrees, when travelling is abt 70 degress to 85 degrees. If u are stuck in a traffic jam, the highest I will ever hit will be 96 degrees with the fan switching on to reduce the temperature to 93 degrees. then to have the cycle going on to 96 degrees and to have the fan turning on again. If u have a blitz i colour flash u could preset the fan to turn on at designated temperature levels to cool down the engine and then u have another set of readings again. The autogauges will have different readings from the digital ones connected from the OBD outlet as the sensors are located in different places therefor again u have a different set of readings. Besides tat I believe different models of cars will have a differnt set of readings as their capacity and engine design is different althought the readings wont deviate far from each another. Starsaaa Neutral Newbie October 28, 2008 Share October 28, 2008 Last but not least heavy footedness plays a part in the temperature figures as well. ↡ Advertisement
