Hi guys,

What do u guys think of an Alfa romeo 156 2nd gen selespeed end 2000 with a coe of only $13000 ...Do u think it is risky to get one with a low coe one? understand that one of these of same age costs ard 73-78k region... had heard that it is inadvisable to get one with a low coe value since every soul in this country are so particular abt paper value ... and also the new 156 cost abt 100k ++ region... if that is true on the papers...

is anything below 70 k a gd buy ?? test drove it already..it is in immaculate condition..the owner pay "tributes" to the agent religiously....not to mention the power band of this car..two thumbs up !!! handles well !! too bad it is not the behind the steering shift paddles...but still able to load me with lots of funs with the shift on the steering....

Hmm...can't wait to be an alfa romeoean....but uncertainties are delaying me at the moment.. [:/]

well, what i think is that it is not necessarily not buyable but he has to pass on savings on his low coe to you.

generally now the market moves at the lower of current price vs historical cost......so you must lock in the low historical cost in order not to lose out

but i not a alfa romeo expert......so cannot advise more than matters on coe

Depends on whether you want to keep the car till its 10 year maturity. If yes .... then it would be a good buy. Price should be maybe about max 3K above paper value. [nod][nod]

If u intend to buy and sell every 3-4 years, then you might lose out. [shakehead][shakehead]

very risky if you ask me cause the current paper value of the car is only 43-45K. If you decide to sell later sure kenna chop...but if you decide to drive all the way, it's a good deal.

Buy with your heart...... Everytime you buy a car, sure lose money one! It's a passion, not a commodity. The lowest price that I know of a 156 is $118K. So for only 2.5 years, that chap still lost >$40K, thus absorbing most of the initial shock for you already. [:p]

Just my $0.02.

XRBEAST,

I have a friend who bought the end 2000 AR 156 with the 12000+ COE. If I can remember correctly, he told me that the COE rebate is 25k and he got back around $12k from the selling price. He traded in his car in Oct 2002 for a new Honda Jazz for $80k because firstly, he felt that the AR156 is not "safe" to drive due to some weird Selespeed problems and secondly, he was offered a very attractive trade-in price. As of now, 9 months later and the current lousy sentiment in used car market, below $70k seems like a reasonable price.
