Ford Mondeo

I wonder why dont RM bring in the 1.6 Ecoboost..... it should produce 160bhp and 240Nm .... It should be almost the same power as the current 2,3 but with power shift.... and most importantly, it will be under Cat A COE, which will reduce the upfront cost of the car by about $12K.

So, instead of pricing the 2.0 Ecoboost at $129k, they can price the 1.6L Ecoboost at $117k and beat all the competitors (Camry, Superb, Insigna, 407, Laguna, C5, etc...) pricing by at least $10k.

Anyway, 240bhp 2.0 Ecoboost is still not available in most parts of Europe... only Germany (which is LHD). So, probably why RM cant bring them in yet.

If I remember correctly, during the time u bought yr focus, the price is around 60K. This time u are going for a car at more than twice the previous amount. Instead going for the cheaper 200hps, u want the 247hps instead.

Seem like your salary increased by more than 2 fold during the financial crisis period. How u managed that?

work hard... work smart.... made some decisions earlier that are paying off at the moment :) financial crisis doesn't mean that there are no opportunities...

anyway, according to Ford, the 240ps version has no price increase from the 203ps version, so even though it might take a while for the uprated model to come in, I'd take that version anyday... btw, you're right, i did buy my focus for about 60k, which to me was a steal considering my neighbour bougt it for 84k just 8 months earlier...

thank for the info. I will think about it and get back. not sure how much bargain I can get for the 2009 one. current offer for 5 door is ard 114 k. body kit and upgrade to 17 inch rims ard 8 k additional. is it the best One can get?

Instead of spending $114K on a brand new Mondeo, why not get a used 13 month old one for only $86K and save $28K

13 months ago, the dealer also asked me to buy... the price.... 84k with the works... once the new version comes in, I don't see how this car is able to sell without incurring quite a big hit on depreciation

Supercharged

In any case, the worse that can happen is to change a new turbo unit. Hence no need to be so kia-su.

Re-chipping can definitely be considered if other parts need not be changed and if it is legal.

The extra bhp is significant. Best to consult a good manual.

It is the 1.6 Ecoboost that is not available yet. The 2011 2.0 Ecoboost is already available in London (or at least they were taking orders last month).

Miles, you are right. Despite what some reviewers say the Ford UK website does not show the 240 ps Mondeo. It does however, list the 1.6L 160 ps model. All this is very confusing but I guess they have to clear the 2010 203 ps stock before bringing on the new model. Maybe they are off-loading this to the Asian distributors like RM.

Useful suggestion indeed. It's just that have a mindset that the chances of getting a problematic car are high with used one and it saves that much trouble.

Going by what's said, I think it's prudent to wait for the new model or wait for few more months to see how coe travels.

thanks for the valuable inputs bros.

THe final offer I could get for the current mondeo is 110 k net for 4 door with 17 inch/ 3m film. it's kind of within my budget and more importantly both myself and my wife liked the ride. we did consider used car but decided to have new one for mental peace.( yes, knowing the depreciation ) I am planning to trade in my existing ride and pay the deposit on Monday. is it a considered a decent deal with the coe heading upwards or should I negotiate more? any ideas would be good at this stage. many thanks.

the mondeo is truly a nice ride... but if you could wait one more month until they really have to clear stock, then it might even be cheaper. Jus look at SGcarmart's guide. Even at 110k, their profit margin is still about 20k give or take....

thanks. very true.

My concern was the coe rise will compensate anyway going into the next month and into the first quarter of the next year since there will be drop in quota.

btw. are you a ford club member ? I have trouble registering in there.

cheers
