Ferraricalifornia 1st Gear August 27, 2010 Share August 27, 2010 that may not be the case locally. hope they bring in the 200bhp so it'll be cheaper. you want cheaper??? might as well let them bring in the 1.6L 125bhp version??? cheap shouldn't even surface in such class of cars.... [laugh]
Ferraricalifornia 1st Gear August 27, 2010 Share August 27, 2010 man.... i was expecting sub 7 sec timing for the 240bhp version.... but gotta wait till the test drive unit comes.... before concluding if 240bhp is enough or not....
Ferraricalifornia 1st Gear August 27, 2010 Share August 27, 2010 but i have to agree with one of the response, the Mondeo is just too big to be driven around enthusiastically.... it suggests a more relaxed drive..... and for that, 200bhp is more than enough.... (the current 2.3L 161bhp needs to be worked to get a move on....)
Samshio 2nd Gear August 27, 2010 Author Share August 27, 2010 From my knowledge from other ford forums, esp the uk ones, the 240 bhp engines will replace the 200bhp engines. This is because the first batch of ecoboost engines was outsourced. Now they produce in-house with some special tuning and components, can achieve 240bhp. So there will only be 1 2.0l ecoboost which produces 240bhp. The old 200 bhp are currently available for the current mk4 versions being sold now in europe. From Sep/Oct onwards, the 4.5 versions will replace the current mk4 version. These will only have the 240 bhp engines. The price for all specs except for the titanium spec will be the same. As for the comment earlier, I implore regent to bring in the 4.5 version, without a significant price increase for the same spec, since uk is selling at the same price. If the OMV is the same, they should be selling at the same price currently. Of course with the COE around 40k, if they sell around 120k, the mondeo should sell well. Overall, the perception of the brand would also be better with more vehicles on the road, leading to better resale value. Win win for all.... but one thing i have to admit, regent does take care of its owners with discounts that are rather attractive. Just have to buy at the right time for max benefit
Ferraricalifornia 1st Gear August 27, 2010 Share August 27, 2010 the Mondeo has to come with improved build quality.... the current one is still rough at the edges.... i'm sure the new Mondeo with the new engine option will boost it's sales, when sold at the right price though.... it really boils down to pricing for the Ford brand.... it's a different case altogether, where people pay the premium for Audi, BMW and Mercedes.... Ferraricalifornia 1st Gear September 15, 2010 Share September 15, 2010 hopefully, RM would be willing to take lesser profit margin, and price and package the car attractively, so that we can see more of this car on the road!!! [laugh]
Torquemeister 1st Gear September 21, 2010 Share September 21, 2010 I had the Mondeo 2.3 for the past 18 months before just upgrading. Lovely drivers car - had a choice of Camry, Accord or Mondeo (stupid corporate policy). Mondeo undoubtedly best looker although all that silver on dash looks cheap. Fit feel finish could be better and definietly needs a turbo bolted to the 2.3 (as you can get in the XR spec in Australia). Ford makes great cars and arguably the best chassis in their class and Mondeo was no exception. Over 11K I averaged 14.5l/100k due to (ahem) enthusiastic driving. So a 240bhp version is what is required to get a more complete package.
Torquemeister 1st Gear September 21, 2010 Share September 21, 2010 Oh - ne more thing on the Mondeo - the chassis, superb that it is, needs some more reinforcing. Doors started to squeak in their frames after about 6 months
Ferraricalifornia 1st Gear September 21, 2010 Share September 21, 2010 the doors of the Mondeo are so thick, it eats into cabin space.... so you're expecting the doors to hold up???
Magfocus 5th Gear September 21, 2010 Share September 21, 2010 Oh - ne more thing on the Mondeo - the chassis, superb that it is, needs some more reinforcing. Doors started to squeak in their frames after about 6 months Squeaking is probably due to the rubber seals that are drying up, not the doors themselves. Abit of lubrication is sufficient to stop the squeaking. Nothing to do with weight as suggested by a school boy here. ↡ Advertisement
