I intended to renew 5-yr COE for the car, as depre is about less than 5k/year with the lower COE price now. However, I just got into an accident, rear-ending a taxi. The bonnet of my car is in quite bad shape, and the radiator seems to have broken. Rest of the parts are still under evaluation, but I doubt the engine is affected. Should I still consider renewing? The car has served me well since I bought it in Jan 2018. Really appreciate some advice, thank you. I had a similar experience and just sharing it for your consideration. Someone reversed and hit my car. Bumper misaligned, left headlight cracked, bonnet dented, front grille cracked. My car was 9 yrs plus and I intended to renew. 1) The WS that did the repair use recon parts to replace, saying my car going to scrap no point buying new parts. I had a heated argument with them but no use, they already replaced it and discarded my old parts. As the evidences were destroyed, I have to suck thumb and accept it. 2) The WS only sprayed the front part, I offered to top up and spray the whole car since I intended to renew so might as well do it once for all. 3) Eventually I still renewed the car despite the repair job is like 8/10. I still find the left and right gap not uniform. But what to do. The damage was not serious as the main frame was still intact - i.e. no dent or knocking needed. My suggestion to u. 1) Go take a look at the repair process once a while. Make sure the WS is doing a good job. 2) No hurry to decide if to renew or not. Try driving it for a while to see if any alignment issue. If the damage is not serious, still worth to renew. To me, things like bonnet, radiators, bumper, grill, these are replaceable and no big deal. But it main frame is dented, then you might want to reconsider. Good luck! rickylah 1st Gear October 5, 2018 Share October 5, 2018 Same price as Elantra. Sure no fight. Unless no ves surcharge then it will be $10k cheaper!
Optramagnum 6th Gear October 5, 2018 Share October 5, 2018 I kena side knocked and it was obviously other party's fault. But Workshop didn't want to repair as my COE left about a week. So I straightaway took out my DBS token and renewed COE and Road tax online on the spot. And they LL but to repair for me.

Hey Roh, thanks for sharing, really appreciate it. This was the state of my car after the accident, and the state it is now as well. I rear-ended a taxi on Wednesday night, and as a result, the taxi knocked another car in front, although the taxi managed to brake in time initially. (3-car collision) So no doubt it will be entirely my fault. The condenser, radiator and probably the fan and fan motor are broken. As well as the bonnet and front bumper. Insurance is under my dad, so it's certain that his premiums will increase next year after the claims. Workshop said that they will replace everything with new, original parts if I were to repair, and cost will be 5k+. But I will have to renew first before repair can begin. However, my excess would be $2,500 if I were to repair this car. (Young driver below 23yo) I really wanted to renew this car as mileage was still low (150k+) and there hasn't been any issues with the car so far. (COE expires Dec 2018) These are my options and I would really appreciate some advice: 1. Renew COE, then repair the car and pay $2,500 excess. Concerns are that my dad's insurance premiums will raise further, and although the car had been in good condition before, it may not be the same after an accident. 2. Get another second-hand car. (Looking for small cars, I loved the Swift, so if maybe another Swift again or a Fit/Jazz or something similar) 3. Buy a brand new car. (My parents suggest this and agree to loan me money, but I wish to own my car independently and so, not take up such a high cost. The new Swift looks gorgeous though) I am studying currently but working part-time as well and I need a car for work. Thanks guys for reading, I am new to being a 'car-owner' and will really appreciate any advice I can get. P.S. If my car was under insurance in the name of my dad's second car, how will this insurance claim affect him? Will his own car (first car) suffer an NCD loss as well? His premiums will still increase drastically right? As although I was the one who got into accident, the claim is made against the policyholder, which is him.

The $75000 price tag is quite stretching actually, I was intending to get a second hand car initially. But I was comparing the depreciation of 2nd hand vs this new Swift, and I found it to be rather similar. So I thought maybe it would be better to try getting a new Swift instead. What are your thoughts? Thanks!

Below current swift pricing there are still few options such as Elantra or Cerato or even lower Attrage. To get one quickly typically can ask which color and model are in stock, basic option without locally fitted add ins can be registered very quickly I guess (depending on AD sales volume). ↡ Advertisement
