Mine is a silver FD2.

I noticed the most swirl under those show room spot light. And also under those orange colour street light.

I see that Sun gun a few hundred dollars, who knows the bulb also expensive.....I think try the Brinkman first.

Thanks for reply.

Personally, I think for daily driver, as long as park directly under public lamp post (those bright yellow tungsten bulbs) and cannot see swirls/scratches is the standard that i aim for.

If i go beyond that (and i dun think i will cos it's too much work for a non-pro OMO), it would have to be a very special car!

my 2 cents:

I find flo lamps good for spotting dings and water spots/pitting. The spot xenon/halogens are good for spotting fine scratches/swirls.... natural sun light good for spotting holograms, chips and deeper scratches.

That would be our recommendations as well. For a silver car, it can be a little difficult to capture light scratches. But I think the Brinkmann should work fine for swirls and medium scratch marks.

Also, the surrounding is important to capture the various 'defects'. Direct sunlight is good for an overall assessment and for spots as mentioned above. But you can't use the halogen under direct sunlight.

To spot swirls for example, you might be better off in a darker area or enclosed garage with the shutters down.

Hope this helps.

I think we need both the fluorescent and spot light to reveal it all. Of course I got nothing to reveal at this moment because just polished and waxed my car.

Got it from AutoRage, the Dodo juice & Zaino dealer.

Hey bro MD,

Better be safe than sorry when explaining - just in case someone tries it under sunlight and complain that the tool does not work...hehe

That must be the same kind of people who would need a solar powered torchlight [;)]
