Carlover76 Neutral Newbie September 22, 2008 Share September 22, 2008 TTS = Text-To-Speech It means it will read back to you the road name you are turning, if the Nuvi set do not have TTS then it will only speak "In 200m, Turn Left". If it has TTS function then it will speak "In 200m, turn left to Orchard Road" so you do not have to look at the screen to do the turning. ↡ Advertisement

Showtime Neutral Newbie September 22, 2008 Share September 22, 2008 so are we right to say that it only reads road names? any other things that TTS reads?
Civic6656 1st Gear September 22, 2008 Share September 22, 2008 (edited) But TTS has it's limitations too. For roads that is in english, no problem. But for roads that is in Malay, it will sound very funny if pronounced in English. Most of the time i have to look at the screen as i don't understand what it is trying to pronounce.... Speeddemon Neutral Newbie September 22, 2008 Share September 22, 2008 The funniest part is....if it cant pronounce it....it will resort to spelling the darned word out.... I ever kenna something like this "In 100m, turn left at Tiong B.....A.....H....R.....U road"....was totally confused when i heard it the first time
Lorrliew Neutral Newbie September 22, 2008 Share September 22, 2008 Currently, you can get any Garmin Nuvi set with TTS in Singapore from PW and other GPS dealers unless you go for Nuvi 700 series. I ask my friend to buy from USA and they do still have Nuvi 350 with TTS, it only cost me around $360. If you buy in overseas like US, it is not loaded with Spore map, isn't? Then you have to pay additional to get local map?
Tas0577 1st Gear September 23, 2008 Share September 23, 2008 No, I can load the map from malsingmaps and it is more updated than the Garmin MY/SG Maps.
