Second this. It quite a reliable car. My cons only apply to poor FC for AT and behind leg room abit inadequate. smile.gif

Agree with this. FC is terrible. Legroom is nightmare with someone like me with long legs and height of 1.85 metres. I sprained my back the last time I drove a Sunny. [bigcry]

i wld say it depends on individual's travelling patterns/habits.

i'm basing it on 70% highway & 30% city, i'm not a HRF & do send the car for regular svcing/check type pressure type of car user.

bro. it's base on my own vehicles. owned both pre face lift and driving face lifted version now.

pre fl auto i got constant 11.5km/l normal and 12.5km/l light foot.

both similar FCs. of course if pick up step harder then around 10km/l liaoz. so it's up to individual.

never owned 1 before but driven my relative's 1 for 2week when they went for holiday.

i feel it's under power and bad FC. But it's 1 of the cheapest 1.6 seden in the market. so overall plus minus still okay. would get any kimchi 1.6 over this anytime.

I had owned a 1982 Nissan Sunny and 1991 Nissan Presea (which was built using Sunny as platform). I am a satisfied owner.

The Sunnys in year 2000+ can't be that bad! [laugh]

The FC turn "bad" only when I upgraded to 17" wheels. FC became 9km/l

Even on the original 15" wheels, I can get 11-12.5km/l easily

There was once when I car pool during reservist ...drove from East to Mandai for a couple of days. 4 biga@@ men with backpack and still managed 12+km/l.

btw it is an ex auto.

I took a replacement car when my car kenna bang at the rear.

First impression was that it can't be all that bad. Cos I was given a choice of either the Getz, Sunny or Altis. Didn't take the other 2 first cos I driven the Getz before and wanted to try other ride....Altis...I bias...I dun wan a SawadiCAR.

I drove the car out from the rental company....ok...boh power one leh....but didn't want to compare too much cos my ride is a 2.0 turbo...equipment level for a 1.6L "base" model not too bad. Climatic control aircon, CD player, power everything (except the engine)...ride was ok.

Then at the first topup....a quick punch of the calculator shows that the FC is just the same as my 2L turbo minus half the power and half the fun !! A confirm no no for a 1.6L NA car. So I called the rental company and ask if I could change to either the Getz (not that the Getz is a much better car but more or less the same but FC hell lot better). But was given the SawadiCAR instead....with a open mind...I went to change the car....

After 5 days....I understand why the Altis is the best seller in SG....a great ride...responsive engine (not beyond 4,000 rpm) and decent equipment level and the FC (I got 12-13km/L) and I anyhow whack the car the FC does not suffer !! A really good all rounder. Does not well in spectcular fashion but does nothing wrong as well.

If I have to change a ride based on the 3 car mentioned....I will say Altis would be my choice and Sunny will be relegated to the last position.

Just my personal views.

Nissan Sunny is really not that bad, especially you take it's selling price consideration and compare it among it's peers within that price range.

Don't compare it with Altis, Civic, etc...cos they have already move the bar and Nissan has the Sylphy & Latio to fill in the place left behind by the Sunny.

I drove Y2k N16 for close to 2 years. Low maintenance & value for $$. But underpower & bad FC. Bad roof insulation is d only thing i cannot take it. Could chiong consistently 140km/h on NSH.

Really depends on what you are looking for. My current ride is a Sunny 1.6 manual which is an OPC. When I am looking for my car, FC is not a major consideration since it is a OPC car usage is low.

What I like about the car is,

1) Relative affordable for a Japan made car, especially for 1st time buy where price is a major consideration. If you have deep pocket, it most likely you will not consider the sunny.

2)Feel stable at high speed i think due to its weight.

3)Was given 3 years free maintenance including materials and labour. For the 1st 3 year I did not spend a single cent on servicing. Even my faulty reverse sensor was repaired FOC during 1 of my servicing.

3)Interior material is relatively good. not too sloppy.

Now 3+ years later, I am considering to change to a normal plate car and most likely will change my sunny because my requirement has change.

1) Need a car with good FC.

2) A car with good leg rooom at the passenger side.(Sunny is lacking in this area)

3) Big booth space car (Too many baby stuff to carry)

So really there is no really a bad car but only a unsuitable car.

Am drving one now.

Yah, Bad FC is the plague.

Could see the needle move when

I start the engine, drove for 20KM+ and reached my destination.

Best of all, drivng alone and drving with 4 Paxs on board

returns the same FC. Mine is a EX auto and manages 12KM/L +/- 0.3

(80% Highway, 20% city) constantly

(460KM - Low fuel indicator lights up and pump 39L to full).

Ever fetch 5 adults in the rear before. [hur]
