Timmz Neutral Newbie September 15, 2008 Share September 15, 2008 I just did a try to loosen the wheel nuts with the small car supplied tool kit wrench. ooowwww, it was soooooo tight, tried all round. cannot even move even 1 of them. ok the wrench is rather small and has poor leverage...... but.... if really need to change the spare... I dont think I can make it :( Due to the air wrench super torque tightening? Any 'kang tao' for getting a better 1? or look for a strong pipe to better leverage on the supplied wrench?? Please advise. Thanks ↡ Advertisement
Xiaogary Neutral Newbie September 15, 2008 Share September 15, 2008 put the bar in, then whole body stand onto the bar. Then jump or shake on the bar. I tried to remove one nut from Grandis before. Jump up and down 10-20 times with whole body weight then the nut loosen.
Ahliew Neutral Newbie September 15, 2008 Share September 15, 2008 i find bending your knees slightly, putting the wrench 90 degs, pulling upwards helps me abit. or step/jump on it i find it harder to push it downwards
Kyojin 1st Gear September 15, 2008 Share September 15, 2008 er... did you unloosen the nuts BEFORE you jack up the car? you can use a hollow pipe that can go over ur wrench and use it as a bar extender to get greater torque.
Apollo 1st Gear September 15, 2008 Share September 15, 2008 goto chew hup thai or kam automart but the taiwan made extendable bar. this uses simple fulcrum principle of longer length x force to overcome the locked nut. not expensive and hv 2 nut adapter for use on 4 different nuts. the crossbar can keep at home. this one good for fighting also.. Kb27 Supersonic September 15, 2008 Share September 15, 2008 The problem is the tyre workshop always overtightened. They like to do at least 100 ft-lb and more. That's what I found out with a torque wrench. According to my car manual, the tightening torque is only between 60 to 80 ft-lb. Even after you untightened it, if you go back to them, they will overtighten again and again.

Caravan 5th Gear September 15, 2008 Share September 15, 2008 KICK it. Or rather stamp on it. I have changed tyres 3 times, and kicking always works. Don't underestimate the power of a kick.
Brock 1st Gear September 16, 2008 Share September 16, 2008 If you jump on it, better be careful. Not properly aimed or timed, you're gonna have a bad gash on your leg if the metal connects with your flesh.
Robin 4th Gear September 16, 2008 Share September 16, 2008 initially i also cant loosen my "virgin" nuts.... but after the first time... no problem liao
Eyke Supercharged September 16, 2008 Share September 16, 2008 Due to the air wrench super torque tightening? just make sure whoever next tightens your nuts don't go over your car manufacturer's recommended torque. or get yourself a torque wrench, and DIY; that's what i do coz besides hard to loosen, over tight can strip threads and warp rotors.
