can check one but it's invasive procedure so won't do if the non-invasive tests say no need. but then, even if got do test and test is negative, does not preclude crap from falling into your lap.

True, so no matter how many tests have done is not foolproof.

There were signs prior to a heart attack. 

Shortness of breath, eg. you walk a short distance and you felt like you just completed a full obstacle course,.

You woke up suddenly in the middle of the night, feeling breathless.

Then you should go for a checkup. 

I experienced that and ended up in a hospital. 3 stents were inserted into one of the artery to my heart.

So you have heart blockage? Heard can monitor your 3 highs to see your risk factor of having heart blockage? By right if you have good result on your 3 highs, your risk of having heart blockage/heart attack would be lower?

If suspected to have any symptom can simply go ask for specialist appointment with National Heart Centre through Policlinic if you do not want to spend much.

I went through the treadmill ECG test there last year as part of my Pre-Admission Test for a surgery where I was hooked up with a few probes and told to run for about 10min. Was relieved when subsequently informed no abnormality detected. The old professor attended to me really like to talk and very friendly. The detailed ECG test suppose to pickup any abnormality in heartbeat when the heart is stressed.

ECG good to pick up abnormality heartbeat but still cannot pick up blockage. Guess in most heart attack case, it is the blockage that kills.

Yeah. mine was the heart blockage. 2 of my veins were blocked. Doctor said I suffered a massive attack and part of my heart was already damaged. Did not mention about the 3 highs though. Oh well, I'm fortunate to have my treatment done on time. Otherwise I had to see Radx already.

Guess your blockage must be quite serious, at least 90% blocked. Many people only know that their heart arteries are block when they get heart attack. Seems like it is not easy to detect and know whether your heart arteries are block, unless you go for a CT angiogram.

Last year I was thinking of doing some thorough heart check via polyclinic route, and was thinking what symptoms should I tell the doctor for a referral.. Didn't go thru with it, couldn't describe a fake symptom with a straight face..🤣

Now my thinking has changed, in that not test for it  so as not to over treat it.

If you suspect there is a problem with your heart, you should go for a check before it is too late.

Yes. Almost fully blocked. Luckily no need bypass. It's not easy to detect heart blockage but there are definitely signs that will affect your daily life, signs that i had described.

I think if you suspect you have some of symptoms better go get checkup. Just tell them you feeling chest pain once in a while and weak in your hand should be enough to get the referral. For due diligence the specialist will put you through a battery of tests to confirm the status, as no way can diagnose just be looking at you. For me the few trips is definitely worth it.

For me it is part of Pre-admission Test for surgery after getting to know my condition. If my heart got blockage, I do not think I can last the 10min brisk walking and running doing the treadmill test. Shirt all wet and panting despite the aircon setting.

I don't suspect anything, as I don't have any symptoms.  Just that I am of the age which auto puts me in the high risk group and I like to run alot. So the thought of getting a thorough heart check at subsidised rate did come cross my mind.

So weak in the hand and chest pain,...hmmm...

thanks for sharing, hope you are recovering well and back to normal life as much as possible.

I also had one episode a few years ago.  After reading your story and thinking about it stills scares the hell out of me.  

With men being more prone to heart attacks and coupled with the fast paced life, insufficient exercise, poor diet choices , other lifestyle factors and any hereditary factors,  all of us really need to be aware and take the necessary precautions.

Actually no need for most people.

As long as your risk factors like blood sugar/cholesterol/BP levels are controlled, if you are asymptomatic, whether you are diagnosed with heart disease or not doesn't really matter for your long term survival. Just controlling those 3 things, is more than sufficient for most pple.

If it's your time, it's your time.
