Scion Turbocharged September 10, 2008 Share September 10, 2008 Yuan Dynasty stuff should cost more than that if they are real...even for peasant-grade type. They may not be considered treasure, but they are old enough to attract a sizable casual collectors to want to buy it. So I believe there will be profitable to make fakes. A very good copy would have cost you more than $500 (depending on the complexity, size, etc) Personally, I feel for $500..it would be difficult to even get a real piece of good example of late Qing Dynasty peasant plate/vase, etc... I could be wrong. Maybe someone who is into chinese antique can share. Another point to note. If you are superstitious, then better read up more about the item or similar style, etc...to make sure it is not part of the burial offerings. i'm not an expert, but generally yuan dynasty's antique are not as exquisite as tang or song, mainly due to the low cultural level in that period after the mongol rulers destroyed and downgraded han culture... the price may be factored by the rarity (ming and qing's antique are more abundant) and age (yuan spanned from 1271 to 1368 when it ruled china)
Silver_blade Turbocharged September 10, 2008 Share September 10, 2008 I agree that Yuan's dynasty's antique are not as exquisite as tang or song. But it will definitely cost than $500 for a vase/bowl....just for it's age.
Julian Clutched September 10, 2008 Author Share September 10, 2008 Seriously if you ask me, i think Qing antique are much more nicer than most other dynasty maybe due to better advancement of material and paint used. I think Tang antique should be most expensive since like you say they are having a rich culture.
Julian Clutched September 10, 2008 Author Share September 10, 2008 I think $500 is way too cheap for a Yuan Flask too that is why i post here. If you see the flask, you cannot believe it is $370.00 (actual cost in SGD inclusive of shipping). It look more like S$5000.00 kind of antique. Julian Clutched September 10, 2008 Author Share September 10, 2008 I seriously doubt those sold online or from that geylang shop are real. But is it neccessary to get a real one? Some good replica are almost as good as the real ones but there are not cheap...but better than to pay for one that you 'think' is real, but not. Maybe I can share with you the valuation of one of the late-Qing bowl my mum has to give a rough idea what's the market-rate in s'pore. My mum's grandmother passed her a big soup bowl, belonging to the late-Qing dynasty, which she brought from China. She left china during the late-Qing period and had used that bowl since. There is a slight chips and fine cracks in the glazing. It was valued at around $600 for that lousy bowl. If not, i will turn to antique from ship wrecks which they claim to be authentic as they show video of them salvaging sunk Chinese ships from 16th to 19th century. The price range from US$90 to maybe US$700 depending on condition. It's not necessary to get a real stuff but seller insist that it is authentic which i can't believe it. I wouldn't mind to pay for a replica if seller is honest to tell but definately not S$500.00. I have bought one replica Qing Moon Flask from Taiwan for S$100.00 from a reputable shop in Taiwan so $500.00 for replica is no no
