Hi,

Recently I have black rubbery stain on my window. Thought was some bird sxxt. Later did I found out that the sound proofing material inside the door panel has fallen out thus the sticky bitumen faced the window panel.

Question

1)I paid $250 for (2layer x2)from a reputable shop in Singapore in 20/12/06. And the material so call is the best in their range. Is it normal for it to drop out.

2)What is the option do I have. Take out everything and repaste again? Will it drop out again.

Thanks for the advise. May go down to the shop to see what will they say since it has been 1 year plus going to 2 years.

i diy using some brand from end 2005. (forgot which brand. too long liao)

Until now still ok leh. even my car boot which i can access the soundproof mat directly, it is still very sticky leh..

2 way for it to happen.

1 ) they did not prepare the surface well , i.e remove the grease and clean the interior door panel well.

2) They did not rub / press thru the sheet to the car properly

such problem shldnt exist... i use cheap bitument sheet use for construction (from bro maverick)and last me for 3 yrs w/o any problem. I even use it on my bonnet where its this is the parts exposed with most heat and it doesnt drop either... when i sell my ride.. i try to peel it and no way... no matter how i try, ... cant remove it at all.... its depends on whether the installer know the right way to do it.

Got my bitumen for DIY project from "maverick" as well, got both metal and plastic backed types.

Its extremely sticky and stains whatever it comes in contact with, pretty much impossible to remove once it has been pressed onto the panel. [sweatdrop]

Just wondering, have you performed tuffkote or any anti corrosion treatment on your vehicle?

If so, the oily stuff has to be completely removed prior to bitumen installation or else it will not adhere properly.

Rolling is also necessary to remove air bubbles and activate pressure sensitive adhesive.

Latest update.

Went down to look for the installer. Told them about my problem.

They restick the soundproof material again FOC.
