Tunge 1st Gear September 5, 2008 Share September 5, 2008 (edited) seems like to you, life is about looking good and money. u forgotten the entire purpose of why you are serving your reservist ... that's what irks me ... not the uniform ... u keep seeing the tree and not the forest ... so unless it benefits u .., make u look good and doesn't inconvenience you ... then only then its worth the effort ... shucks ... its sad but I guess to me its just a sign of the times that we live in ... glad that s'pore still have people like u... don't know how old u r now... but whatever the case good job for having the right mentallity abt reservist! as for me, my life is definately not only abt looking good n money, and ihave no need to prove to u or explain my pirpose of life... but then i admit thinking abt reservist is probably at the very back of my mind, n i dread recieving the SAF100 though i must say that reservist can be fun at times... ... pls do not judge me just because i say that i dislike the new uniform, whether i support mindef's decision abt the new uniform has got nothing to do w my love for my country... btw u do not know what kind of **** i went thru during my ns days n during my last reservist (my last reservist was a 3 weeks combat course i did among us were commondo regulars, rangers, guards, etc) n guess wat my i had a good appraisal for the course. so wat am i saying? being patriotic, being responsible, been loyal, doesn't mean u can not have taste, n most definately doesn't mean u have to be a blind follower and believer of all that gov propagander. the purpose of reservist? r u doing reservist? pls kindly enlighten me what r ur noble views and attitude abt reservist... as for me, as least i go back faithfully, didn't go find excuse to downgrade, went for the course i mentioned, during exercise i do wat is required, no need to wayang no need to do extra, i keep myself fit n get silver for ippt, but i bring civilian food outfield, n radio too, time to slack i slack, can siam responsibility i try to siam, can sleep i sleep. Genie47 1st Gear September 6, 2008 Share September 6, 2008 Dunno why but if I'm a regular, I would avoid peacekeeping assignments. Too many rules and most of the time anything happens, want to fire back in defence or anger also cannot. Runs counter to what a soldier is all about (killing machine). Ajedi72 Neutral Newbie September 6, 2008 Share September 6, 2008 ironically, your biggest gripe was about money u have to spend and time u have to take to sew on badges ... if you realise I never once said that the colour of the new uniform was a work of art ... but then again it wasn't intended for that ... kudos to you for attending your reservist duties ... and for getting a good appraisal ... What propaganda are u saying ... the uniform gives the government political mileage? To me, its clear ... increase survivability and to stay ahead of the game ... its just that straight forward, without having it become another exercise in 'what's the point', we don't go to war ... isn't that precisely the whole idea? Everyone is entitled to their own opinion ... and certainly to each his own in terms of taste ... if you have just stop there, I wouldn't have bothered, I've not taken issue with the rest who expressed how ugly the uniform is ... but just basing purely on your post about $ and time ... I just find it utterly shallow. I'm still not convince whether you believe what u are doing when u go back for ICT. Do u have any sense of purpose, do u know why you went back and did that 3 week combat course ... to avoid legalities or just pure personal gratification? Indeed u could be a high achiever in every aspect, especially fashion - given your need to look good ... or are you a pragmatist ... just do enough to stay below the radar so no one can say you chow keng n get over and done with it after u clocked enough. Only u know for yourself why u keep going back ... and then u will realise it doesn't matter what colour or pattern the uniform you put on ... Sky61 1st Gear September 6, 2008 Share September 6, 2008 (edited) well i can say the new uniform is good for camouflage in the jungle, but singapore don't have many left,so unless we are not defending our nation but attacking others nearby....then its effective. the uniform will look like an eyesore if u try hiding in our concrete jungle. the uniform honestly looks like crap, but if it saves u in the jungle then why not. just looks very weird when everyone fall-in in the parade square last but not least,if u STARE hard at it, u will see hidden messages in the new uniform!!!they can incorporate rank n name into the uniform thru the 3d pixelation...or some words for the platoon sergeant(like drop 20)...then all the PS got to say is "stare hard into my uniform n DO IT" hahahaaha Edited September 6, 2008 by Sky61
Shull Turbocharged September 6, 2008 Share September 6, 2008 i tot UN's ROE for peacekeeping is do not fired unless fired upon? so if the bugger fire on you..you can fire back..
Dumb 4th Gear September 6, 2008 Share September 6, 2008 N get this, the rank for officers & WOs will be shifted from the shoulders to the centre of the chest Now imagine u meet a female officer & need to see her rank.... Whereever she places the rank, you will still look at the neh when u see a female officer.
Ironstarz 1st Gear September 7, 2008 Share September 7, 2008 A soldier is not a killing machine leh , A regular that avoids peacekeeping mission do not deserve to be in the armed forces Whats the point of holding soldiers that cannot be deployed? Only u know for yourself why u keep going back ... and then u will realise it doesn't matter what colour or pattern the uniform you put on ... eh think u must have been lost in the heat of this arguement... my original protest was against the look of the uniform, especially the color... was my biggest gripe the cost n time wasted? u find my pragmatism shallow ah... oh well that i gotta admit. i really do not have a noble attitude towards serving, but neither am i chao keng, i do what i'm supposed to do n that's it. well so i presume since u r so DEEP and self sacrificing, i suppose u do not complain abt ERP, inflation, taxes, rising petrol, GST, etc because if we look at e big picture, these are neccessay for the economy of s'pore. oh of course u r MR JUSTICE what u hear me complain abt cost n time wasted u cannot accept it n must shoot me back.... eh so much for "Everyone is entitled to their own opinion" h btw pls read through the postings cos i'm not the only to complain abt wasting time n money to resew the badge, u must be fair n go shoot him also leh oh lastly let me add... NOV got reservist again ah! xian man! somemore this time gotta assesment, will be xiong.

Genie47 1st Gear September 8, 2008 Share September 8, 2008 You need a policeman for peacekeeping. Not a soldier. A soldier is a soldier. A killing machine or something to be sacrificed away. Modern armed forces training and organization can be traced back to the Romans. The men of the legions did what they did well because they are trained to kill over and over and over again. That is what is soldier is.
