Hi all,

Would just like to check if you would be interested to view real time (video) traffic conditions on your mobile phone.

Example causeway traffic, certain parts of the expressway, major roads.

If this can be done with your phone and does not incur GPRS charges, would you be interested?

Also you might want to add your road or intersection name, this might be a reality in the near future and trials will be available.

Highly unlikely la, cause it means installing another program on your mobile phone. What I am proposing is using your current phone architecture.

Not addtional program installation.

I think this is a good idea. Sometimes I need to go to a certain but I do not know what is the shortest possible route and I had to use the street directory to find the nearest expressway and trace all the way to my destination hahaha. I know in UK this AA website is very driver friendly whereby you key in your starting point and destination and they will generate the route and total distance covered and time taken for you. Very useful.

I dun think it's useful.

Firstly, if u make it free. Every mother's son knows that particular road is jammed and they'll totally avoid it and jammed up other roads. Pointless.

Make ppl pay $5 like in your poll. I dunno. Some drivers dun even want to put $0.50 coupon for parking. $5 on top of minimal ERP, ppl will think it's ex.

Sg kinda have short expressways compare to bigger cities. What can work over there dun mean it can work here.

I think real time SMS is cheaper. Video got no chio bu to see, only traffic jam, kinda boring. Maybe not all of the major expressways. Ppl can choose to subscribe certain major roads which they use frequently. Give ideas to alternate routes maybe.

Actually if drivers who dun have GPS to give them directions to alternate routes also pointless, keep feeding them with traffic jam reports or pics without giving directions is not practical.

Ok, thanks for the feedback. I was thinking it could be useful for people who might want to travel to a certain place, but not too sure if it is jammed up.

Thus the LTA website with the view of certain roads and causeway, was thinking having the roads on video real time with mobile phone viewing would be attractive for people who are outside.

Like say.... Having a coffee outside and thinking if should cross the causeway.... That kinda thing.

Not incurring any form of charges is definitely not possible. To have video streaming to our cellphone, data transmission is required, and since you mentioned it will be on existing architecture, most likely GPRS will be involved, unless you are talking about wifi data transmission, which is free if you can are able to find a free hotspot.

actually the onemotoring webstie have that interactive map showing the whole SG with the colour coded roads, it's good if it wasn't so slow in updates. Many times I've driven along the green colour coded roads, only to find got very slow traffic on it. So for your idea to work, it has to be realtime or at most delay a few mins.

It is real time..... But it is a video view, not a map view. It will show you actual traffic condition real time with a video feed.

This does not involve installing applications on the phone, thus it is actually a simple concept of viewing a camera installed at strategic locations.

Singtel has live video cam service on both checkpoints. $0.53 per view which I think is overcharged. Actually I don't mind paying 5 subscription fee per month to use this service but $0.53 per view is just ridiculous.

If you are able to provide this service with GPRS charges only I am all for it. Since I am already on BBoM (Broadband on Mobile) already.

Yes, I agree. This is also another possible avenue for revenue, no matter what I cannot be doing it totally FOC because I do have some costs.

Now is a matter of location... Anyone staying in Woodlands with a bird's eye view of the causeway?!

Yes, it is same method as video calls. We are already doing it for security monitoring, like real time viewing of office or living room (to watch your maid in action!) [laugh]

Ah.. live video streaming on video call enabled phones on 3G network.. Understand now. Do you have a cam in someone's shower? laugh.gif

But I guess it will be hard to decide on the cam location, and also the data synchronisation to a central server. Network latency and delays also have to be taken into consideration.

Hahaha, we have been at this technology for years. So we are not too worried, we have already taken all the technical problems which might be faced into consideration.

You seem quite technical, so what are you doing?! [laugh]
