Cyberet Neutral Newbie August 23, 2008 Share August 23, 2008 funny thing is that GR80 was better than my stock B391 5 years ago. However, gr80 will be slippery on wet painted white lines, wet metal surfaces, but most tyres will be right? ↡ Advertisement

Bulls_is_back 1st Gear August 23, 2008 Share August 23, 2008 I will concede that good wet tyres gives a better margin for error. This margin of error will be different in different situations. But, be it in the wet, oil patches, car in front sudden e-brake, age of tyres or with what so ever fantastic wet weather tyre, the fact that the car bang into something when one brakes, simply means that the distance between 2 cars is too close/ or too fast for that particular occasion. Zippaboy 4th Gear August 23, 2008 Share August 23, 2008 so it is a close fight between XM1 and GR80. the funny thing is i have been hearing alot of praises about GR80's wet grip, now i am having 2nd thoughts. XM1 is omni-directional right? meaning can rotate all 4 together. but GR80 is bi-directional? only front to rear and vice-versa.
Fondue Neutral Newbie August 23, 2008 Share August 23, 2008 (edited) is the GR80 really that bad? been driving quite aggressively in the wet with my stock B391, wet grip still reasonably good. Well, GR80 is a pretty good tyre, esp the noise level. Just that its wet grip is not the greatest. Need to allow more braking distance on wet conditions. I was pretty surprised when I kissed the car infront cos that's how I've been driving all these years. Lucky its just a light thump Edited August 23, 2008 by Fondue
EvenStar 1st Gear August 23, 2008 Share August 23, 2008 Oh.. my GR80 wet grip so poor..!!step on brake.. skipped and Bang..!!and was only trevelling at 60km..! guys , any recommendation to any good tyre for 15"..han+cork ? If you jammed braked in wet condition, likely you will experience skid depending on the type of road surface, vehicle and condition of the rubber. GR80 is proven local condition, hence unlikely it the main cause of the accident.
Kianbeng Clutched August 23, 2008 Share August 23, 2008 Actually with nowadays' car with ABS....the margin of error is narrowed. If it's a no-grip tyre + no ABS = good recipe for much higher risk of accident.
Leepee 1st Gear August 23, 2008 Share August 23, 2008 (edited) I am looking for the best wet grip tyre. One with the lowest wear ratings, maybe like 150 to 200 points. Edited August 23, 2008 by Leepee
Ah_liang Clutched August 23, 2008 Share August 23, 2008 Local wet roads I drive like 80 to l00 km/hr using Gr80 and I find the grip acceptable.

Silver_blade Turbocharged August 23, 2008 Share August 23, 2008 ...How come no abs activation? With or without ABS, the car will still skid if the tyres have lost it's grip. ABS is is only good to prevent steering lock and allow driver to control the steering at hard braking....so driver's input is needed.
Silver_blade Turbocharged August 23, 2008 Share August 23, 2008 is the GR80 really that bad? been driving quite aggressively in the wet with my stock B391, wet grip still reasonably good. I doubt GR80 is bad when compared to other tyres in it's class. Condition of the tyres eg. age, mileage, tyre pressure, etc + condition of the road + speed, etc play a big too. I feel GR80 is a good enough tyres for most drivers. Of course, there are many better tyres (from the other class)...but for the better in grip, you will have to bear with extra road noise (unless you pay load of $$$ for the better ones) and higher wear. Kb27 Supersonic August 23, 2008 Share August 23, 2008 Tyres do make a difference. My own experience with Michelin Preceda (I) on a particular wet corner, the ABS would fire to prevent skid or anti-lock. The next time, I took the same corner, similar condition, with Hankook RS2, the ABS did not activate.
Modykoh 1st Gear August 23, 2008 Share August 23, 2008 as many other shared, i was surprise it happened.. just too many parmeter for car to skid...
Octopus 3rd Gear August 23, 2008 Share August 23, 2008 Oh.. my GR80 wet grip so poor..!!step on brake.. skipped and Bang..!! and was only trevelling at 60km..! guys , any recommendation to any good tyre for 15"..han+cork ? What's the mileage clocked for your GR80? I've tried Hankook V8RS (V2 for 15" and below) twice previously in my old car, and noticed that the wet grip deteriorate towards 40k km. During wet road and jam brake can feel the wheel lock and slide a bit. It was a non-ABS car. After change to a new set (same tyre again) its ok.
