Sgnick 1st Gear August 15, 2008 Share August 15, 2008 (edited) I have no idea where is the other thread discussing this but are we discussing on how Singapore they are? Cmon.. dun blame the FTs for all these? Singapore parents allow their ids to play sports as an occupation in the first place? Do you? If not, who is going to represent us in the sports arena huh? You are the one who bring up the french WC team in comparison in the first place right? I am just telling you that it is not apple to apple comparison that's all. I am just discussing with you about the french WC team compare to Spore team, not interested to talk to you about what you want or don't want for your children or about parenting. Have u checked on the history of the french FTs like Zidane or Thuram and how they got their french citizenship? Is it the same as LiJW and FengTW? Today's Straits Times explains FengTW's story very well, spotted early last year in Japan as a great talent, persuaded to come Spore, be Spore citizen, represent Spore. Now win medal for Spore. All in less than 2 years. The french WC FTs on the other hand were already french citizens long long before they even kick a ball or before their football talents were recognized by anyone. So should the french people feel proud of their football team? Of course, because France did not "buy" their sportsmen, they developed them from young. Already so many people are telling me Sunday's final is China vs "China". If LiJW and FengTW migrated to Spore when they were toddlers and were trained from young to be champions by Singapore using the Singapore system, then we shall celebrate as the French did in 98. Asd78 Clutched August 16, 2008 Share August 16, 2008 Welcome to the real world. If you don't win, who wants to groom you? You will lose the sponsorship and end up with nothing.
Testa_ross4 Clutched August 16, 2008 Share August 16, 2008 Sgnick, please do not debate about how Singaporean our medal winners are, a talent is a talent, as long as they are better than a true blue Singaporean, I think the FT policy is great. We as Singaporeans should be more concerned with the importing of rubbish and failures into Singapore and labeling them as talent. Frankly if you look at the current FT situation, 99% of foreigners in SG are trash and no talent, take a look around your company and spot any foreigner, is he/she really a talent or just cheaper to higher? No matter how talented he/she may appear, just ask yourself, if you were to get a Singaporean of equal talent, how much more would you have to pay? So in this case, it is a matter of employers "cheaping" out on Singaporeans by taking the lowest cost route and that would lead to a downward wage spiral, which is what is happening now. If the FT policy was really managed well and only true talents like our medal winners were allowed in to Singapore the FT policy must be supported. BTW how true blue Singaporean are you? How many generations of your family born in SG?
Asd78 Clutched August 16, 2008 Share August 16, 2008 Are you for real? You are suggesting we open up our immigration to let FTs in with disregard for their potential and even though they might end up as nobodies? or would you try to scout for FTs with potential and groom them for the big stage? Sgnick 1st Gear August 16, 2008 Share August 16, 2008 (edited) U mean i must be descendant of Sang Nila Utama to be considered true blue Singaporean? Otherwise, why do you even bother to ask me such a question? If the adult FTs take root in Spore and their sons/daughters born and grow up here, i consider their sons/daughters true blue Sporean, regardless of their skin/hair/eye color. Anyway, those FT workers hired by local companies are not here to represent Singapore, they are here to make a living, so why are you talking about them in the first place? They trash or they take your job or children's job also nothing we can do. We also have the choice to go other country to work and be a FT in other country. So let's go back to topic about FTs who were recruited to represent Spore in sporting events shall we :) Oh, btw, LiJW and Feng TW, do they even know who is Sang Nila Utama? I dont feel proud with FT winning the medal. BTW, even Li JW dont get any medal, she wont feel guilty. She already informed thru the press that she got flu on the day she departs singapore. Testa_ross4 Clutched August 16, 2008 Share August 16, 2008 So if no need to be descendant of Sang Nila Utama to be considered true blue Singaporean, then why can't FTs who were recruited to represent Spore in sporting events also be consdiered true blue Singaporeans? You seem to contradict yourself and finally you post this question "Oh, btw, LiJW and Feng TW, do they even know who is Sang Nila Utama?" your point being? Must know who is Sang Nila Utama then can be considered true blue Singaporean?

Scoots 3rd Gear August 16, 2008 Share August 16, 2008 since we not willing to do it, then no point compraining right? just like cheap FT coming over to singapore and taking jobs which singaporeans hiam and comprain, pay too low, long working hours and etc... THere's the other, less favoured option: Olympics 1.Train Singapore borns until we are ready. 2.Don't send in a team ... etc Low paying job 1. Offer higher pay 2. Offer more flexi hours to tap homemaker work force...etc There's always a choice. The issue is in what was CHOSEN, not that there were NO choices
Pioneer 4th Gear August 16, 2008 Share August 16, 2008 well, you can take the lead... by slogging at one of the sports which you are good at... then bring glory to Singapore... best is to win the gold medal and be rewarded with S$1 million.. or best, catch mas selemat dead or alive.. you will be rewarded with S$1 million too.. you think sports is about "I take a badmintion racket play everyday for 10 years I will win?" One of the lecturer in NCAP Theory Lesson has mention it takes about 10000 hours of training to produce a champion, with good quality training and assistance. You need money to employ good coach, machines, and equipment to help you, you get money from where? It is not about time and effort anymore, it is about money + time + effort. The difference between locals and FT is that we dun have the money support.
Tay107 Neutral Newbie August 16, 2008 Share August 16, 2008 Being a S'porean Chinese Had anyone here visited Beijing before Do u guys feel proud when u landed your feet on the Great Wall or the Forbidden City? What's wrong with FT? Every Chinese here started as immigrant too Is it too late for them now? Why some feel so unbalance or sour grape here? If you have chinese friends from PRC, you will understand that most of them, in fact all of them, look down on us. Even if we won a gold medal, i dont think it will do us any proud, cause we 'buy' instead of develop our OWN. The key words here is "OUR OWN" ya u think beijing will call u as CHEENA no men u are make in SG ok yes our great grandfather is fr cheena but they are here to build SG tis cheena CHAR BO can any time take the $$$$ and say bye bye sg go back cheena tis the diff ok bros pls wakeup don talk old grandfather story now is new generation wat so great about FT or FW soon will take over the sg ppl here.. by then u will not say u r proud but so sg pls weakup ok

Er..., u refering to the 80's or 90s M'sia Cup win? If 80's, still 100% Singapore product. But if 90's, then got 2 OZ FT playing lei.
