Skoder Neutral Newbie June 23, 2003 Share June 23, 2003 Hi, I have this problem when turning out of car park. A clark sound is heard each time I turn out. And it only happens when I turn out. After that no other sound. It not the brake thing....I think it is be'cos the engine is cold some how, the steering wheel thingy goes "clark" Doesn't sound like this after engine warm up. Dudemobile has got this prob too. Care to advise? ↡ Advertisement
Koolaba 1st Gear June 23, 2003 Share June 23, 2003 is it due to worn out drive shaft cover?
Jimmyl Neutral Newbie June 23, 2003 Share June 23, 2003 When you turn out of the car park, are you on a flat road or slope?
Ace_t Neutral Newbie June 23, 2003 Share June 23, 2003 do you know which wheel and does it happen everytime you turn? Or is it at a certain angle when you turn the wheel. Perhaps you've a worn out bushing or steering joint. I had a similar problem and was found that a bushing damping a bolt had come loose. Replaced the bushing and voila.. no more sound. Dudemobile Neutral Newbie June 23, 2003 Share June 23, 2003 Mine is only when I turn right after reverse parking the car in the lot. Car's at CA today, hope they sort it out.
C708 Neutral Newbie June 23, 2003 Share June 23, 2003 People, How can worn items occur when their cars are SDZ reg Octys ???
Virus 2nd Gear June 23, 2003 Share June 23, 2003 Hopefully is not manufacturing fault. All recent registered Octy do take note.
Dudemobile Neutral Newbie June 24, 2003 Share June 24, 2003 Yah man, got the car back from CA and they couldn't replicate the noise, so didn't fix it. They said that they checked everything on the front wheel drive and nothing was wrong. Guess I have to find a way to replicate it 100% so that they can see it an repair it. Dun want them to keep taking apart the front wheel assembly only to put it back without solving the problem. Must check the UK VAG sites to see if there is a recall on this. Acemundo Supercharged June 24, 2003 Share June 24, 2003 i think something in the steering wheel needs tightening. ever encounter the same.
Dudemobile Neutral Newbie June 24, 2003 Share June 24, 2003 I had a similar problem with my elantra, but the car would also skip a bit when turning out from a parking lot. But my octy now doesn't skip but just the clank sound. Like skoder said, it only occurs when it's cooled down. Not when it's hot. So by the time reach CA, car hot already and can't wait to demo to them, maybe try this sat..
Acemundo Supercharged June 24, 2003 Share June 24, 2003 for my case, it occurs whether hot or cold, and does not affect the driving, sound heard only when steering is full lock left/right. i told my agent, they tighten up, no more sound.

Skoder Neutral Newbie June 24, 2003 Author Share June 24, 2003 Hi dude, nice to meet you last sat. only after meeting you and telling me abt the clark sound, do I notice it. My poor Octy... Actually, I tot you r talking abt the brake thingy, but after experiencing it, it's definitely not .It is not the clark that irritates me, but the snow ball effect that it may lead to. Who is in a better position to advise when CA themself is unable to solve?
