Kezg1 5th Gear August 13, 2008 Share August 13, 2008 Read in the ST that the reason to charge 20 cent for using NETS is to remind customers that it is an expense...blah blah, this is simply outrages and no a brainer's reply in order to justify their action. Don't you forummers think so...btw i do not punt. ↡ Advertisement
Mcf777 Turbocharged August 13, 2008 Share August 13, 2008 It the same for taxi. why are they allowed to charge 10% extra if paying by caredit card? Why cant' retailer, provision shop or any merchant to charge extra for Nets or credit card payment?
Fondue Neutral Newbie August 13, 2008 Share August 13, 2008 Let them say whatever they want I've already minimized paying by NETS. Only use it at NTUC or topping up cardcard. Most merchants I'll just pay cash and they are usually appreciative . I rather use Credit Card if I don't have enough cash.

Icejelly76 Clutched August 13, 2008 Share August 13, 2008 Usually NETs got no extra charge. I think the Taxis started the charging for use of NETs thing, slowly one by one is following. I was stunned when one of the workshops I went to want to charge extra for using NETs. I thought the cashier was joking, but actually she was serious. She was kind enough to tell me there was an ATM nearby.
Thug Clutched August 13, 2008 Share August 13, 2008 (edited) Why cant' retailer, provision shop or any merchant to charge extra for Nets or credit card payment? Becoz they had already included the surcharge.... Some shops will give u a discount if u use cash payment.. Edited August 13, 2008 by Thug
Try_conti 2nd Gear August 13, 2008 Share August 13, 2008 If not wrong, NETS raised their transaction fees recently. This is taken from NETS' website: "NETS continuously monitors transaction fee rates in the market to ensure that it remains competitive to merchants." This is the very method our govt has been employing...first start something with grand reason, then slowly slowly strip away the benefits and then suddenly we are left with all the kaosai. A good example was the initial implementation of ERP. I remembered (I got elephant memory one) they said before only morning ERP would be implemented due to ecomonic consideration, and no ERP for night time cos traffic jam at night would not incur economic cost. Then slowly slowly the tune changed. Suddenly got this what Island-wide ERP nonsense. Many more examples...Weekend car (the 5 years thingy, for those Bros who remembered), GST with rebates, etc etc. To help them implement, they gave you a bit of rebates here and there. Mark my word, one day all the rebates would be taken away and we are left to fend for ourselves. Edited August 13, 2008 by Kenneve888

Mcf777 Turbocharged August 13, 2008 Share August 13, 2008 (edited) so you be happier if all shops, retailers charge extra for Nets of CC pyt? Those shops that dont charge extra for NETS or Credit card are those with high profit margin and they must have negotiate a lower merchant fee with the card centre Example : restaurant, petrol kiosk, Carrefour, Giant and air-tickets booked online with the airlines directly. If u purchase air-ticket from travel agency, 99% you have to pay 2-3% extra for credit card payment. Cos their profit margin (service fee) is not enough to cover.
