5 stolen Honda CRVs found; suspect arrested

FIVE Honda CRVs stolen within days of each other late last month have been recovered by the police.

 

One man has been arrested, and the police are looking for others who may be involved.

 

The vehicles were returned to their owners yesterday afternoon, but the owners had them immediately towed to Honda agent Kah Motor, where they demanded an explanation of how the cars were stolen.

 

They believe the safety device in the $96,000 CRV failed to do its job. That belief is shared by several members of a Honda CRV owners group, the CRaVers Club.

 

About 30 members of the 300-strong group have started a petition to present to Kah Motor, and more are expected to join, said Mr David Tan, the club's founder. They demand that Kah Motor conduct a proper investigation and explain how the cars could have been stolen.

 

The CRV's engine immobiliser system is supposed to prevent it from being driven away by anyone without a key that is synchronised with the car. If the proper key is not used, the engine cannot be started.

 

The five owners whose cars were returned to them claimed they managed to start the car with their house keys.

 

Kah Motor said it would investigate, though Mr Vincent Ng, the company's product manager, said he was confident that starting the cars with house keys was impossible.

 

He said: 'We will look into the matter at the request of the owners. I am confident, however, that if these cars were bought from Kah Motor, the immobilisers are not defective.'

 

The five owners had parked their cars in Housing Board multi-storey carparks in the Jurong and Kallang areas. All of them said when the cars were returned to them, there were no signs of forced entry, such as broken windows.

 

Said Mr Kelvin Ong, 58, a businessman whose CRV was stolen from a carpark in Jurong West on July 30: 'We paid a premium for the car, and Honda even advertised how good its anti-theft devices were on its brochures. How can this happen?'

If $96,000 is premium, then what is it for the Merc and BMW ? Not to mention the Ferrari and Lamborghini.

obviously these people think they drive a premium high class car/suv. no wonder they drive like they owned the road.

 

km should not bother about them until police investigation is concluded. for all u know, they towed the car away.

IMHO, I seriously think AD got to provide a reasonable explanation/solution to these owners.

 

These 5 unlucky owners with many others wont feel secure until the casue/remedy is made known. I even think that some knowhow has been leak from the AD workshop...

Frankly speaking, there is nothing is theft proof in the world.

 

I personnal think the cheapest and the best method is to use Mr bean pad's lock system and his customised steering wheel whcih is quick release...hahaha

Its good that the owners received their ride back.

 

As for the immobiliser issue, I think Kah Motor has alot of explaining to do.

SO many suvs kena stolen in msia, why dont their owners go back to the AD and demand for action?

I dun mean to be mean here but like some bros here have stated nothing in this world is steal proof.

 

What can Kah Motor do for these customers unless the device is fitted locally? Honda is the manufacturer why not sue Honda instead.

 

Car thieves are constantly learning how to bypass or beat the latest alarm systems. Dun be surprised they most of them are electrical experts.
