just noticed that there is a speed indicator on the left side just before the bend at the slip road entrance to PIE (Tuas) from Tampines SAFRA yesterday.

I was driving past it when it flashed 61 kph & i looked at my speedo which was ard 60 kph.

this morning i passed by it again, and in front of me were cars & the display panel also flashed some fig. i drove slower ard 55 kph & the display flashed 54 kph.

wonder what this is for ? perhaps to warn you before the bend ? or catch u speeding & summon u ??? [shocked]

Indicator i guess. Haven't had a summon from these things before (maybe not fast enough [sly] ) There is also one from PIE to Bedok North turn-out (also before bend).

Your speedo is spot on exact.

Most cars speedo are 5-10km higher than the actual speed.

I have checked mine with GPS.

So now the question is has anyone check their actual speed with this speed indicator to confirm what is the 'accuracy' of the speed indicator compared to GPS readout?

I do not travel those roads, so not able to verify myself.

its a speed check for drivers to slow down if they are going too fast...

always wondered what wld it display it you were above 100, cos it's only a double digit display... :P

Not too sure about the effectiveness of this, cos the kick-in warning just before the bend doesn't seem that much for someone who's speeding. Perhaps if pulled a little further back...but of cos, shouldn't speed in the 1st place la.

Interestingly, I heard from someone in the coffeeshop one day, that in the wee hours, such indicators are used for 'qualifying' laps, apparently based on highest number flashed... duh

it's for you to know what's your cornering speed so you can improve on it each time you take the corner.

highest speed taken (without crashing) wins you a pair of F1 tickets drivingcar.gif

Very common in Taiwan. They will always place the speed indicator some distance before the speed camera.

LTA confirmed that this is not a speed camera.

just an indicator to entice u to slow down.

Neutral Newbie

Oh, that's good. Maybe should go see how much difference my speedo is showing since my car originally comes with 175mm tires but now using 185mm tires. [sly]

the display is actually quite small ! i wouldn't hv noticed it if it was not flashing and by then i was quite close to it already.

ok ok so it is not camera.... next time 'measure' my speedo again.. haha.

but seriously i hope it doesn't distract drivers too much, esp those who are encountering it the 1st time.
