Mini-itx Clutched June 8, 2010 Share June 8, 2010 IMHO, the Copen is not worth the money....ITs too expensive for such a tiny car and its just 63HP......
Evoluzio Neutral Newbie June 8, 2010 Share June 8, 2010 63 horses are probably 30 too many for sg's roads. How much do you need to travel at highway speeds? 630 horses?

Marusho Clutched June 8, 2010 Share June 8, 2010 Insurance almost 2k??!! I got my licence 5yrs ago, and am 29 and above, anyone can advise what is the approx insurance for this car? Mine is less then $900. Female primary, male nominated as secondary driver. Age over 30 with 50% NCD. Its a fun car to drive. We had the roof down numerous times over December when its breezy and cool last year. Average fuel consumption, but accelerates well enough to keep up with the daily traffic and on the highways.. besides.. speed limit in Singapore is 90km/h..... As some mentioned, boot space is very limited with the roof down.. but with it up, it can fit an Airline handcarry sized luggage.

Iisterry 3rd Gear June 8, 2010 Share June 8, 2010 Thanks for the advice, This is my 1st car in sg, 1st car to be own and bought by me, hubby agree to downpay 20k for me. Instalment I intend to keep at 5 hrs If I buy a 2008 copen, and scrap or sell after 3 hrs. Will I lose a lot? Sorry I dunno how to count depreciation or OMv Anyone can advise me how I shud calculate my burden? Depreciation? Ask for the owner/dealer to check the paper de-registration value @ Jun 2013. You can use the paper value plus a little bit of body value as a guage for the minimum worth. Then you use your purchased price and minus off the minimum worth (3 years later), you will arrive at your depreciation value per year. However, a copen isn't really about depreciation or dollars & cents for that matter. Its an impulse buy/want as opposed to a need. For your "burden", you are looking at the following factors. 1) Installment - dependent on loan amount 2) Insurance - you already have a rough guide 3) Parking 4) ERP 5) Petrol - I get about 10+ to 13+km/l on a Copen 6) Road tax - this is dirt cheap 7) Maintenance 8) Fines 9) Miscellaneous expenditure/indulges

It's cute, convertible and small CC imagine how cheap the road tax is! Insurance won't be very expensive given your profile. For your hubby's sake, PM me when you get your ride, i will link you up with the relevant people to do HKS mods - L880K - dyno-ed at 130HP and 180NM on the 660cc engine, with an upgraded turbo and advanced fuel and engine management systems, and a reinforced engine. Freaking amazing for a 660cc engine, you probably can overtake with easy normal Jap sedans, and as well as cross 200km/h.
Circuit Clutched June 8, 2010 Share June 8, 2010 if u are a gal, it is fun to drive by itself already, v zippy and fast, u dun need all those power its a fun to drive car, not a monster power GTR similar. and u wont drive too fast with top down. due to ur hair will be too messy by high speed top speed is limited to 140kmh due to speed limiter by kei car restriction, can unlock by install a delimiter, my copen top i try at 165kmh. (after 160kmh, v slow but still going up) insurance for me 30, 30% NCD, is abt 1.4k road tax is $356 per yr reliable. so far 2 yrs no issue at all. made in jap, when i take my car , perfect no defect at all. more info and mods, go copensg.com .... ask ard. if u wanna make it into a monster, which i dun think u will, will cost u a bomb, (applies to all types of car)
Kiadaw 6th Gear June 8, 2010 Share June 8, 2010 Fiat 500 more cute, & iconic. Anyway, while I personally don't think the copen is that cute (although I do confess to like small car), its still one of the cheapest convertible in Sunny Singapore, so why not. While I can't see myself drives a convertible in Singapore, when even at night, temperature is 26-28 deg C, (which in some countries, considered heatwave , & hot enough to go beach for sun tan). But it (topless car) is something that I think of owning in future when I moved to cooler temperate climate. Anyway, I heard, nowadays, climate control can still work well with the top down, so it eliminate the problem of our "sunny" climate. SO yeah, why not. Gingerdip 1st Gear June 9, 2010 Share June 9, 2010 (edited) For your "burden", you are looking at the following factors. 1) Installment - dependent on loan amount 2) Insurance - you already have a rough guide 3) Parking 4) ERP 5) Petrol - I get about 10+ to 13+km/l on a Copen 6) Road tax - this is dirt cheap 7) Maintenance 8) Fines 9) Miscellaneous expenditure/indulges Pls help, I am a "virgin" car owner, so I dunno what to expect, but based on this list. I called the seller to ask about the paper value, was informed that its 15k+ 1) Installment - dependent on loan amount - will loan 35k, 5 yr loan 2) Insurance - you already have a rough guide - should be less than 1.5k I hope 3) Parking - free at office and at home 4) ERP - my roads dun lead to ERP, so I shud not face this often, I estimate less than $50 a mth 5) Petrol - I get about 10+ to 13+km/l on a Copen - so translate to how much for light driving, just drive to work and home, maybe 2 or 3 times a week to town for errands 6) Road tax - this is dirt cheap 7) Maintenance - pls advise again what to expect? 8) Fines 9) Miscellaneous expenditure/indulges - dun intend to mod this car, I have many other vices to spend my $$ on. As long car looks cute, can move me from pt A to pt B, I'm a happy girl. Edited June 9, 2010 by Gingerdip

I got my licence 5yrs ago, and am 29 and above, anyone can advise what is the approx insurance for this car? yup i got quoted 2k for insurance, 35 and above, 8 yrs driving experience. I ended up looking at the mini cooper S for the same insurance amount. you can try to use aviva website for an approx quotation. it has helped given me a rough gauge on my cars insurance. I have quickly done a check for you on the webby and it shows up as 2.3k for your insurance. Remember that since its a 2nd car, there is 0% NCD. Unless your husband wants to transfer his lancer's NCD to this copen. Edited June 9, 2010 by Readonly

I dont understand the fun part of this car. It is not a very aspiring ride, its wheel base is also relatively narrow, its making up for the low ride. Also for those that have driven convertibles before, they will surely tell you that it is not practical in SG weather. Unless you like having sweaty butts.
