Hi bros,

Deciding whether to go melaka or Sg Rengit for this weekend.

Anyone stay at Sg Rengit before? I've stayed there once in a lodging room many years back..... Besides the seafood, at night really nothing to do, nowhere to go... but I'm not sure about if situation have changed for a better or not.

Any reccommnedations besides the seafood?

Thanks [thumbsup]

Sg Rengit is a small fishing town. We take the trawlers out to sea for our fishing.

Other than a couple of seafood/makan joints, u can watch the cats playing along the road. [:p]

Go Desaru better as what was recommended. Or better still, try the hotels at Sentosa. Now u can drive into the Island.

If you are staying at Desaru stay away from Golden Beach Desaru resort. We went there during national day and it was very run down. The lousy excuse for buffet breakfast was pathetic too. Aircon was dripping water. No way in hell we will return to that resort.

We went looking around when we passed by the Pulai Desaru. Now this one is very nice. No chance to look at the room but lots of facilities outside and the pool is nice. Might go there next time.

there's nothing much to do at sg rengit, except to chill/eat/bonk. [sly][bounce2][bounce2]

if u cycle, u can check out the trails in the surrounding area, but if u ask this question, unlikely that u are into cycling [;)]

u can try visiting desaru fruit farm, desaru beach, and ostrich farm. i heard ostrich farm is quite a sad place [lipsrsealed]. fruit farm must pay to go into the orchards [rolleyes]

visiting desaru beach while staying at rengit may be a good choice unless u wanna catch sunrise at desaru beach. desaru is really very deserted and the accomodation costs more than in rengit.

i usually stay in one of the hotels in town. cheap, clean n pretty decent. but forgot what is the name of the hotel [blush]

anyway, i recommend malacca over rengit. more variety of food and more things to see [;)]

however, i must say sg rengit is a peaceful and sleepy town, i went there quite a few times for overnight RnR [:)]

The Pulai Desaru is the best in the area but even it is showing its age. Don't hold your hopes high. Until the Senai-Desaru Highway comes up, I doubt the standards will improve. If only they reinstate the ferry service.

is desaru still quiet as ghost town?

last went there was 2001..

the bagalow is full of monkey..

I suppose you are referring to Desaru beaches - well, not quite. You'll see lots of S'poreans enjoying the beach we can never have.

You're right about the monkeys - they are still there by the hundreds. You gotta keep the balcony door closed at all times and leave nothing out to dry.

i went to see their "heritage" stuff. nothing awesome but still worth a look nonetheless. can check out the partial ruins of their old church on the hill [;)]

i also like to walk around the town and enjoy the atmosphere. at night can enjoy the street food, etc. there's also a big hawker centre opposite the emperor hotel, worth a try [nod]

one thing quite famous, but rather overhyped, is their chicken rice ball. i would rate that as average only. but i'll recommend that u try it anyway. must see for urself [:p]

If you have not booked Mahkota, suggest you go for other hotels there. It should be very run down now, unless if they have done some big overhaul of the place. Equatorial will be better.

Pulai Desaru's pretty decent for the money. Try to get a room on the wing closer to the beaches. They have reduced their rates quite a bit from a year before - RM200 a night excluding breakfast.
