Leather shoes: Any recommendation?

After years of wearing the same design shoe from Hush Puppies (I've bought the same pair to replace each time it wears out), I decided to buy some nice and slightly more expensive shoes for a change, to see if they are really worth the money over my $100 Hush Puppies.

 

The turning point when I was at a Black Tie event a month ago, I had a suit on but my shoes were so chui. Check it out.

Although they were seasoned and very comfortable, it's worn.

 

So I took the advice of one of the gurus in this thread and went to check out Ed Et Al, a local brand helmed by Edwin Neo, who does Made To Order shoes.

 

I ordered a pair of Black Double Monkstrap, with Goodyear Welted Construction and Double EE width. Waiting time is 8 weeks.

 

Then I went over to their retail shop called Guild at Raffles City to have a look at their ready made range and decided to plunge for a pair of Oxfords, Blake constructed, to "tide over" the 8 weeks waiting time.

 

Still trying to season in my shoes and my walking habits need to change a little too. The leather soles are slippery compared to the rubber ones that I've become accustomed to

Finally got my custom made shoes last wed. It was what.. a 10 week wait?

 

Wore it for the first time today. It was tight and uncomfortable at first. After 5 hours, it's now much better.

 

Not sure if it's due to the Goodyear Welting, the sole was a bit propped up and it filled my arch nicely.

 

I thought without laces, I can just slip it on. End up I still needed to unbuckle the straps ð

 

In general, this is much more comfortable compared to the Blake construction Oxfords that I bought off the shelf from the same maker. Maybe next year I'll try out another custom made brand just to see the difference.

High SES shoe leh.

The leather on my leather shoes is wrinkling and flaking. Think holes coming soon.

Anyway, wonder how you guys season your newly bought leather shoe? My feets feel so painful and sore after slipping in my new pair of leather shoes!  [dizzy]

Take shoe polish, apply liberally over the shoe, slot shoe tree in, leave it for a few days, then buff off the shoe polish.  Wear at home for 10 minutes for the next few days.  You don't need to walk in it while in the house. 

 

After one week, your shoe should be relatively seasoned.   [thumbsup]

The sale girl told me the shoe would get lossen after sometime and when the shoe is seasoned, so better dont buy one size bigger.

Take shoe polish, apply liberally over the shoe, slot shoe tree in, leave it for a few days, then buff off the shoe polish.  Wear at home for 10 minutes for the next few days.  You don't need to walk in it while in the house.

Thanks for the info, should try that. Looks like i can only start wearing my new show after one week or so, lucky i havent throw away my old shoe. Lol.

wearing shoes one size bigger is like wearing slipper   [laugh]  [laugh]

 

it has to be nicely fitted and wrap your feet, a poor fitting shoes will hurt your feet and bone in long run.

$268 bro. I don't season it. I just wear.

 

But before that I will bite the shoe first so that it doesn't bite me. Learnt it from my 3rd aunt back in the kampung years ago.
