Apollo 1st Gear July 15, 2008 Share July 15, 2008 Russia may export new Su-35 fighters to India, Malaysia, Algeria FARNBOROUGH, July 15 (RIA Novosti) - Russia is ready to export the new state-of-the-art Su-35 Flanker multirole air superiority/strike fighter to India, Malaysia and Algeria, Russia's state-run arms exporter Rosoboronexport said on Tuesday. "Algeria, Malaysia and India are our partners and if they express an interest, we will offer them the Su-35 fighter while fulfilling our current obligations," Alexander Mikheyev, head of the air force department at Rosoboronexport, said in an exclusive interview with RIA Novosti at the Farnborough International Air Show in England. In 2007, Sukhoi, which is part of Russia's United Aircraft Corporation, exported about 50 Su-30MK2, Su-30MKM and Su-30MKI aircraft under contracts with a number of countries, including Algeria, India, and Malaysia. The company is planning to export at least 160 Su-35 fighters in the future, Sukhoi's deputy head Sergei Korotkov said at a news conference in Farnborough on Tuesday. "The [su-35] aircraft has attracted a lot of attention," Korotkov said. "As part of our business plan, we expect to sell about 160 planes." The Su-35 fighter, powered by two 117S engines with thrust vectoring, combines high maneuverability and the capability to effectively engage several air targets simultaneously using both guided and unguided missiles and weapon systems. The aircraft features the new Irbis-E radar with a phased antenna array, which allows the pilot to detect and track up to 30 air targets, while simultaneously engaging up to eight targets. It is equipped with a 30-mm cannon with 150 rounds and can carry up to eight tons of combat payload on 12 eternal mounts. Sukhoi earlier said it plans to start deliveries of the new aircraft, billed as "4++ generation using fifth-generation technology," to foreign clients in 2011 and produce Su-35s over a period of 10 years up to 2020. http://en.rian.ru/russia/20080715/114032520.html ↡ Advertisement

Zeee Neutral Newbie July 15, 2008 Share July 15, 2008 hmm... sounds like early F14A technology minus the thrust vectoring... in the end, still boils down to pilot's skills & plane's reliability...

Sosaria Twincharged July 15, 2008 Share July 15, 2008 Yup, the F-14 had a radar system that could also track and engage multiple targets simultaneously - and equipped with the Phoenix, which is, until today, the longest-ranged air-to-air missile ever built. Amazing when you consider that the aircraft started operational life in the late 70s. Sadly both plane and missile have been phased out of service some years ago. Zeee Neutral Newbie July 15, 2008 Share July 15, 2008 if i am not mistaken, no air superiority aircraft could do a vertical climb like the 15s..., until the 22s comes into full operational service...

Shull Turbocharged July 15, 2008 Share July 15, 2008 (edited) Russian airframe designs are the cream of the crop.. but the computer 'soft' stuff still lagging behind US technology.. and give them to msia..prob half will be stripped for parts for the other half to fly properly..look at their F-18s now.. Shull Turbocharged July 15, 2008 Share July 15, 2008 yup..the F-15 is proven design..the lift generated by the body is more than enough to sustain horizontal flight even without 1 side of the wing.. using a proven design is another advantage to SU-35.. As for F-16s, it has one of the highest power-to-weight ratio in the world of fighter jets..
Miles 4th Gear July 15, 2008 Share July 15, 2008 so much about american propaganda. the sukhois have been superior aircraft compared to the americans' F14s. russian software designers/developers are known to be one of the best (next to the israelis) in the world. we have been fed with american perceived superiority and marketing all these years. of course, the americans sell their half bake technology to the world at a premium whereas high tech stuff from russia never leave their country. having said that, in a real dog fight, our pilots in the falcons are probably better than the RMAF's in the SU35. Good tool is important, but skills is even more important. I think Michael Schumacher driving a Fiat Punto can still out run any of us in a faster more superior car on a track. Shull Turbocharged July 15, 2008 Share July 15, 2008 (edited) No doubt Russia has damn good hardware and software designers, but they lack the moolah to fully maximise the technology..Which resulted in US superiority.. i mean, if Russian planes are really that good, prob the F-15s would be pwned by the Mig-29s during the 1st Iraq war.. Prob the latest SU-35 are the only one which can match the latest US jets(F/A-22, F-15SG etc)..but if the computers on board chui, it all means nothing..now, most air-to-air engagements are over the horizon..whose radar and missile have longer range will win..
