Alonso impressed with Stig

"Whoever's in that car is a seriously good driver," said Fernando Alonso pre-race at the British Grand Prix last weekend.

 

Alonso was watching a man being driven around in a two seat Santander grand prix car by a mysterious white-clad driver.

 

"I've no idea who he is, but he's definitely ex-F1," Alonso continued.

 

Who was he talking about? The Stig of course!

 

Those of you who were at Silverstone last weekend may have noticed the well-known tame racing driving lapping the circuit before the F1 cars went out to the grid.

I dunno man... for a long time I suspected he is Tiff Needell

 

Tiff is always darn solid during all his test drive during Top Gear, and he is the only one who likes to listen to music and tear down circuits in any car. Some more he is also Ex F1 which makes him the most likely candidate for Stig.

There is an argument among American viewers of TG that Tiff should return and kick Jeremy out. They like what they see in the old TG episodes while Tiff is still around. They called him the best driver on God's green earth.

Tiff might well be the better driver but Jeremy's a better presenter, sarcasm etc not withstanding just can't stand the way Tiff talks

haha.... i find TG nicer to watch than FG lah. The FG presenters besides Tom Ford like a little too serious for their own good. TG more varied and the rapport between the 3 presenters is good.

The Stig could be more dan one pro driver in the many episodes of TG.

 

Remember last season when JC & gang went to Africa they got a black Stig dressed up like Tarzan. For this season they had got a Japanese Stig when they went to Japan(scoop from TG magazine).

Yeah. Tiff is kind of petite to be Stig. There are not many UK ex F1 drivers who are still active. Other dan Nigel Mansell, Damon Hill & one other fat guy doing commentary for ITV on current F1.

Talk about Tiff, I think hes one heck of a driver!

 

I think the MacLaren F1 track record he set as a still stands as the fastest lap ever clocked by a journalist. In Fifth Gear, his comments are always spot on.
