Hammond and May to leave Top Gear?

Richard Hammond and James May's futures at Top Gear are in doubt because of an argument over salaries.

 

Their contracts run out at the end of the month, but they have not yet signed a new one leading to fears they may leave the show.

 

The report in the MediaGuardian revealed that the two stars were unhappy that their salaries weren't more inline with that of the show's main host, Jeremy Clarkson.

 

Clarkson has apparently negotiated a pay rise which includes profit share of Top Gear rights around the world.

 

A source told the Guardian: "Internally there is talk that there might be a chance for the first time that there could be a break up of the team, it has got that bad.

 

"There has been a lot of pulling out of hair, a Mexican stand-off. For the first time it is possible that one or both might leave. They don't want to accept second status anymore. There has been a meltdown in negotiations."

Hope it will not happen. This is by far the most coherent team since the late 90's. I think of the 2, Richard's position is the most secured...cos he has been there since the launch of the new format... but he is also the most high profiled.

The 3 of them work very well together and the chemistry between them makes the Top Gear Show interesting. It would be sad if Richard and James goes. Sigh as they say the love of money is that root of all evil.
