Chisiang 2nd Gear July 4, 2008 Share July 4, 2008 imo, she jeopardised her kids future by in exchange for some politcal mileage. She should consider what will happen to her kids if she really kena go jail knowing kids, if their peers found out that their mom was jailed, what kind of peer pressure will the kids receive? Do it when you are single, not when you have children. Children in Singapore have been deprived of quality life which is so stressful even for young children, she points out. What kind of quality should a kid have? The basic, food, shelter, a healthy family, education... By protesting and risk going to jail is quality of life for her kids? So she justified the protest by risking her children's future in the name of fighting for a quality of life for her children? "Child suicide has been on the rise. The root of the problem lies in the stiff competition that our children are being put through in school," Is she even educated? Most of the time child suicide is not due to studies, but rather peer pressure. One of my childhood friend jumped because she couldn't get along with some friends in school... And parents are the one who put additional pressure on kids. This article is just another propaganda in disguise and tries to capitalise on the recent mood of the citizen caused by the recent inflation, just that it did not come from the lightning gang that's all. Gearoil 1st Gear July 4, 2008 Share July 4, 2008 Hmm....her case ssupicious....what is her personal background hur? Heard alot ( or rather read too! ) but don't know whether true or not! She might be a 'noble' as made out to be.

Gearoil 1st Gear July 4, 2008 Share July 4, 2008 Hardship?...she and her kids looks 'well fed' leh! Resistance?...you mean we have resistance fighters here like those in Hollywood movies?
Chisiang 2nd Gear July 4, 2008 Share July 4, 2008 imho, when your children are involved... they are your priority until they becomes independent. to suffer the consequences alone and benefits the mass it is a VERY noble cause. But if even the slightest possibility that you may inadvertently affect your children's life, that's stupid and selfish for a mother to behave. The role of a parent, is to protect and nurture your children. What good did she do if she cannot be there for her children and the implication that follows? Boyboy 1st Gear July 4, 2008 Share July 4, 2008 so who is in the wrong? someone who dares to speak up, or the oppressive rulers? i'd agree with u that she should not do that, because singapore is NOT a democratic and free country. she should just migrate. why bother? but there are pple out there who have more guts than u or me. dunno about u but i respect such pple
Boyboy 1st Gear July 4, 2008 Share July 4, 2008 ok in ur 2nd post u did say it's a noble cause. but let's hope the law is exercised with grace. they can always fine her and let her go. even if she is jailed few days, honestly, not a big deal. her kids can be taken care of by relatives i humchee. otherwise i'd rather be a patriot with a criminal record than a "law-abiding" citizen with clean record anyway, the judicial system damn efficient ONLY against political dissident. but i kena assaulted by neighbour, take farking long to settle. yes i did lodge a magistrate's complaint. maybe i shd have said he was staging political rally in his flat and he'd be arrested in no time
Damienic 5th Gear July 4, 2008 Share July 4, 2008 "the judicial system damn efficient ONLY against political dissident" Agree with you absolutely on this. One only need to look at the case of Gopalan Nair who got detained soon after he arrived at the singapore customs. Gomez was stopped from taking the plane when he arrived at the airport..and yet they let Richard Yong escaped so easily..
Sfhuang Clutched July 4, 2008 Share July 4, 2008 Call me unsympathetic, but I do not agree with her approach (even though the intended outcome may be admirable). Like it or not, this is not the way to institute change in Singapore. Not happy go and stage a protest thinking the government will take action? Not in Singapore for a million years. Even the public also don't give a hoot to these maverick protesters!
Chisiang 2nd Gear July 4, 2008 Share July 4, 2008 (edited) I think she has just become another casualty of political struggle of the SDP. If they NEVER publish the article WITH her photos, then even if she's jailed, nobody will know it's her!! NOW everybody knows it's HER!!! And with her children's photo some more!!!! Imagine her kids go to Kindergarden/school... then their friends in school may one day say "My father says that your mom last time went to jail..." how would the kids feel If one cannot even protect and provide for one's child then how can one fight for the benefits of the mass? Purely just wanna score some political mileage at the expense of the children's future Edited July 4, 2008 by Chisiang

Civicblade 2nd Gear July 4, 2008 Share July 4, 2008 The protesters should never have to made to go to the courts in the first place. It will be a sad sad day for Singapore if they are sentenced to serve time in prison. If you do not have the courage to stand up and air your views in the public, the least you can do is to shut up and not put down those with the courage to speak up. If her children were to suffer any backlash due to their mother's imprisonment. It is because of the ruling part of Singapore and cowardy Singaporeans like you. Their mother did nothing wrong, her kids should be proud.
