Kelpie 2nd Gear November 20, 2008 Share November 20, 2008 (edited) Sonata's interior not at par? But I've sat on a Sonata and seriously IMO I find the opposite that the exterior not on par with interior. The car is so compfy and quiet and leather seats are top grade...definately better than Camry and such. Hope you not comparing it with the Sonata taxis those taxi's with cheap trims are so different from the actual car. This topic was discussed long ago. Basically, in totality, the interior just can't match the competition not even the Magentis. The handbrake stick tells it all. The leather seat is the only good thing about the interior. Anyway, I don't like soft and saggy seats. Of course, the newer Sonata interior is something that I would say is a whole lot better than the current one. Carlover76 Neutral Newbie January 3, 2009 Share January 3, 2009 According to the Straits Times today, the Forte will come with a 2.0L option. Sounds interesting.. This year will be an exciting year for Kia as they have many new models lining up the whole year and Kia Forte or Kia Cerato Variant 3 will be launching by end of February or starting of March. There will be 1.6 litres using a all new engine with 126bhp and a 2.0 litres with 145bhp, the one used in the new Carens. And of course, Kia's Turbo-Charged with 290bhp, Kia Koup will be launching this year too.
Shouyi 3rd Gear January 3, 2009 Share January 3, 2009 Wat's new abt this 1.6L engine? isn't it the same unit as the Avante's ? Friendstar Supercharged January 3, 2009 Share January 3, 2009 The current Sonata has good look but the interior is not at par with its exterior. Hope to see world class interior and good performance specification. Again, price perception will be a challenge for Korean made. Sonata's interior not at par? Just install rear aircon ducts, steering with audio control + cruise control and they'll mount a "decent" challenge to the camrys. they just can't get it. Carlover76 Neutral Newbie January 3, 2009 Share January 3, 2009 Wat's new abt this 1.6L engine? isn't it the same unit as the Avante's ? Stop living in the past and you must remember that Kia's 1.6 model is launched earlier than Hyundai, just take the Cerato comparing with Avante. Below are the new photo of the new engine which is different from Avante's 121bhp or Cerato Variant 2's 122bhp.
Airconvent Neutral Newbie January 3, 2009 Share January 3, 2009 Most are talking about Hyundai and Kia as if they are competitors. They are only like that in Singapore because the distributors are different. In reality, Kia and Hyundai are under the same boss. The Hyundai brand is focussed on standard chic and sophisticated segments (avante, getz, I30, etc) whereas the Kia brand is focussed on competent family and value oriented cars (Cerato, Rio, Picanto) that does everything and offer value. However, because they are also their own brands, hence some overlap will occur because ech make will also have some models crossing into the other's segment focus, eg. Kia has coupe models even though this is supposed to be "chic" while Hyundai has the family oriented "Matrix". The Cerato V3 looks good though but I'm in no rush to upgrade. The V2 is great so far, so no urge to replace it for any new model yet..heh heh

Below are the new photo of the new engine which is different from Avante's 121bhp or Cerato Variant 2's 122bhp. Tot Kia is using V2's engine and re-tuned it to produce 126bhp in the Forte? In tat case, do u happen 2 knw of the engine code for tis new Forte? If it's G4FC, it's the same as Avante and V2.

They should use the new 160bhp engine from the facelife Sonata.

Heartbreakid 6th Gear January 5, 2009 Share January 5, 2009 Stop living in the past and you must remember that Kia's 1.6 model is launched earlier than Hyundai, just take the Cerato comparing with Avante. Below are the new photo of the new engine which is different from Avante's 121bhp or Cerato Variant 2's 122bhp. Basically, Kia and Hyundai, they are all the same. Same platform, same engines. Just minor modifications and tuning that makes the slight difference in engine power output, there are some components which are slightly different though, say Cerato variant 2 is using a hydraulic power steering whereas the Avante uses an electric steering. Kia is under Hyundai, do you know that? Seeing the new Forte specs, I see that it is very much more identical to Avante.
Pocus Turbocharged January 5, 2009 Share January 5, 2009 regardless of the engine, i'm looking forward to the forte when it comes in... hopefully CnC don't strip it down to min specs I think CnC WILL bring the min spec cos of the brand image it want to project to Singaporeans. As long as KIA is under CnC, the general public will regard KIA as a no frills budget brand. bringing higher specs will hurt sales of KIA...I mean who would want to buy a KIA model if it cost the same as it's Japanese counterparts....regardless whether the car is better than the jap counterparts or not.......maybe only the hardcore fans but the mainstream will sadly still stunned from it. Also it might cause unessesary confusing to car buyers to was actually planning to buy Lancer EX, under it's same distribution...cos the upmarketed KIA may snatch sales from Mit. And to make things worst, both KIA and HYUNDAI are under different dealers so the competition is fierce...for this case the lowers price wins as HYUNDAI also projects the same image as KIA: no-frills budget brand. unless KIA dealership go to another AD or KIA, for some miracles, won a hugh fanbase wholewide by building something legendary...we'll always get the lower range of their rides. :(
