Apollo 1st Gear June 30, 2008 Share June 30, 2008 Gay's 9.68 winning time in 100-meters wind-aided Eugene, OR (Sports Network) - Tyson Gay surged into the Beijing Games Sunday by winning the 100 meters in 9.68 seconds at the U.S. Olympic Track & Field Trials in what would have been a world record, if not for the wind. Gay, who set the U.S. record the previous day at 9.77 seconds, ran the fastest in the race under any conditions on Sunday, but with the wind blowing a 4.1 meters per second, the time was disallowed for a world record. The wind has to be 2.0 mps or less to be considered for a world record. Walter Dix finished second at 9.80 seconds and Darvis Patton was third at 9.84, and all three men qualified for the Olympics. Tiffany Ross-Williams, Queen Harrison and Sheena Tosta qualified for the Olympics by finishing 1-2-3 in the women's 400-meter hurdles. Ross-Williams had a time of 54.03 seconds. Derek Miles, Jeff Hartwig and Brad Walker were the top three finishers in the pole vault, and all qualified for the Olympics. Miles had a mark of 5.80 meters. Aretha Thurmond, Suzy Powell-Roos and Stephanie Brown Trafton clinched berths to Beijing by finishing 1-2-3 in the women's discus throw. Thurmond's mark was 65.20 meters, winning the U.S. trials for a third consecutive time. In the men's 400 meter hurdles, 2000 Olympic gold medalist qualified for a return trip to the Summer Games by finishing third in the finals Sunday. Bershawn Jackson came in first with a time of 48.17 seconds, followed by Kerron Clement (48.36) and Taylor (48.42). Shani Marks and Erica McLain qualified for Beijing in the triple jump. Marks had a top leap of 14.38 meters. 06/29 20:28:37 ET http://www.sportsnetwork.com/merge/tsnform...aspx?id=4161019 must b Porker behind him ... scared Gay outta his sh1t.run fast fast... ↡ Advertisement
