Is there a rule to forbid dropping passeger near bus-stop ?

I am just wondering if there is a traffic rule to prohibit a car to stop and drop a passeger near a bus-stop. I have been dropping my wife just in front of a bus-stop where the marking on the side is a double yellow line and is not marked as a bus lane.

Just this morning, an SBS bus was right behind me and the bus driver kept honking at me for stopping my car to drop my wife along a double yellow line about 5 meters in front of the bus-stop. I wonder why ??

That'll depends on which bus stop.

Some bus stop quite long and traffic is not so bad ... then it is ok.

So this is really a case by case basis.

Buddy, check your basic theory book. The bus actually has right of way but usually bus drivers are not that mean lah.

If i nvr remember wrongly, when i took my thoery to obtain car license

there is a section where they said no stopping (or parking) 3-9 metre from Bus-stop, Fire extinguisher and 1 more (i forgot which one)..

i think is Fire Hydrant instead of extinguisher??

anyway, the last should should be traffic junction.. [nod]

there's no offence unless operational hours of bus lane. it's only an offence for parking within 9 metres of a bus stop but not stopping for alighting.

against road bully

fake a breakdown

used in place of breakdown sign

why then they still have the double yellow line on the side of the road I stop my car ??

u can direct this qns to LTA instead, just dont try to test the system. but ur case is, i assume u never check ur rear mirrors when u stop b4 the bus stop thus u might be givin the bus driver a hell of a shock when u pull over. or mayb ur wife dint got off quick enough which i doubt so.

if an accident really happens by this such kind of dropping of passengers, when the bus really knocks onto u behind, u wont be "safe" even there is NO double yellow or whatsoever lines because of the 9-metres rule for ALL bus stops.

hope u get the light because TP in SG not are gd around to mess with.

If need to, I would stop my car at the extreme front edge of the bus bay (without obstructing the traffic) and ask my passenger to quickly alight. I would drive off within 10 seconds.

The thread starter used specific situation, he did not stop in the bus stop, he stop at double line after the bus stop.

I am not sure about the 9metres thing, so no comment. Technically, if its double yellow line, you can stop for immediate drop off. That is in basic theory, it is OK to do so. Only double zigzag is NO drop off. single zigzag also can immediate dropoff. THe bus stop got nothing to do, assuming there is no 9m rule thing.

But again, annoying people is another thing, depending on the traffic, just like stupid taxi suddenly stopping to drop customer, just piss people off. Sometimes it makes people's life better if you stop further away and not add to the congestion.

So, it is not an offence to alight someone near a bus-stop. Is this true ?? I just want to clarify the traffic rules and didn't mean to be inconsiderate. [sweatdrop]

even 10 sec to me is long

imagine counting from 0 to 10

for me

its just a 3-5 sec thing

open, hop off, and close

show urgency and people will tend to forgive

no offence the rule clearly states no parking within 9 meters of bus stop not no stopping within 9 meters unless u are in a bus lane. nevertheless try not to stop at bus stop area or else u will be obstructing the buses.

But try not to stop before the bus stop even if no bus lane marking, bcos usually peak hours bus tend to have difficulty in making a lane change.

Edited: i think its better if you stop your car and drop your wife in the bus-stop

front area (where bus also can load & unload passengers) and by the time your

wife gets out of the car, the bus will still be in the process of loading/unloading.

yes, it's 3, 6 and 9 meters, 3 for fire hydrant (not extinguisher lah sly.gif), 6 for traffic junction and 9 for bus-stop wink.gifwink.gifwink.gif
