Octopus 3rd Gear June 24, 2008 Share June 24, 2008 Hi all, Anyone had tried LM703? I happened to hear from an acquaintance that its a quiet tyre with good grip. I did a goggle but most information in Japanese... http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_hb64...12/ai_n25767344 "Akron, Ohio -- Sumitomo Rubber Industries Ltd has developed technology to suppress tyre cavity noise--a growing problem in certain original equipment fitments--using polyurethane foam mounted to the tyre's inner liner. Sumitomo is marketing a line of quiet tires--the Dunlop LeMans LM703-in Japan using the technology along with a noise-optimised tread pattern and a belt overlay of polyethylene naphthanate, or PEN, yarn, which the company claims works better than nylon to suppress noise." Is this a new technology in reducing tyre noise? By placing a polyurethane foam inside the tyre? Anyone had tried this tyre, appreciate your comment. Thank you. Octopus 3rd Gear June 25, 2008 Author Share June 25, 2008 No one used this tyre before? I hear its even quieter than the famous Yokohama DNA dB and Bridgestone GR80...
Cactus Clutched June 25, 2008 Share June 25, 2008 I was on its predecessor the LM702 for 2 yrs before 1 of them burst on PIE... grip and handling is ok, but its very noisy. Changed to falken 912 and am a happy man now, quiet n grippy! I noticed theres oni 3 main groove for water drainage.. many tyres out there have 4 grooves already. Plus 1 groove is in dead centre.. dun quote me for this but i tot it wun be as stable with centre longkang. LM703 is relatively new.. so I guess not much bro are on it at the moment. Maybe can try goggling oversea forum see if theres any review? But from the thread pattern.. I dont think it can be quieter than Aspec DB.

But according to the info, the foam inside the tyre (internal) will absorb the noise vibration, hence giving a quiet ride. Normal tyre internal is hollow, hence the vibration will result in noise. I think its a interesting concept to reduce noise, just wonder how good this theory is. Edited June 25, 2008 by Octopus
Ahyoo2002 2nd Gear June 25, 2008 Share June 25, 2008 Quiet? I am on LM702 before, super noisy but good grip. I hope this LM703 really can improve on noise level.
Msimax Neutral Newbie June 25, 2008 Share June 25, 2008 Believe this is normal road tyre correct? Current pricing for these tyres at a nice price tag for those drivers who do pt A to pt B & tend not to push e car. Btw these tires come in jpn & thai made. Minimal diff in price. 5936 1st Gear December 17, 2011 Share December 17, 2011 Thank you. I am hunting for next set of replacement tyres and the shop recommended dunlop 703 and federal. My tyre size being 215/60R17 is rather very hard to find.

Moonwalker84 Neutral Newbie December 19, 2011 Share December 19, 2011 I used LM703 for size 215/45 R17 for a few months. My view is that it's a pure comfort touring tyre with good straight line aqua planing resistance. This means low noise and smooth and good ride even for my low wide profile. However, dry/wet grip is lacking, and doesn't instill confidence during cornering. If u drive spiritedly, this is not the tyre for u. I changed to Eagle F1 A2 and never looked back. Besides only slightly noisier than LM703, it outshines all other tyres by quite a margin. I'm surprised that this UHP tyre is so comfortable. I believe this GY is currently the best tyre money can buy

20G 1st Gear December 20, 2011 Share December 20, 2011 (edited) Forget about these tyres. they are the worst 18" tyres i ever used. soft side walls. car will flex during higher speed corners. makes u feel like ur driving a boat. lousy dry grip. tyres losing grip while doing cornerings wif speeds above 70. lousy wet grip. tyres lost traction while i downshift to 3rd gear and floored on a expressway. rpm shot but car wasn't accelerating. Wouldn't consider them even if they are free. Edited December 20, 2011 by 20G
