Yeobh 4th Gear August 5, 2009 Share August 5, 2009 Yes the relay is will provide the route for the heavy starting amp via the battery directly to the solenoid and the stater. It looks like the solenoid is not getting enough wattage to fully kick-in the starter pinion to engage the flywheel. ↡ Advertisement
Russ 1st Gear August 5, 2009 Share August 5, 2009 (edited) Some people advocate changing the battery every 12 or 18 months. I think every 24 months max. $120 every 12 months = $10 per month $120 every 24 months = $5 per month $120 every 30 months = $4 per month But if it dies on you on after 28 months, you end up paying over $200 for a on site battery change and then it costs $240 every 28 months = approx $9 per month Then there is inconvenience, time wasted etc. etc.... So, not worth the risk, just change when you sense the starter motor going slow or after 18-24 months. TYRES and BATTERIES are much less expensive per month compared to PETROL, even if you buy expensive ones. ALSO MUCH LESS THAN DEPRECIATION. One week's depreciation can buy 1 new battery. Yeobh 4th Gear August 5, 2009 Share August 5, 2009 Right, if one practice preventive maintenance your chances of calling for roadside assistance is almost nil. Many car owners love to do firefighting with silbings or friends' time.

Kianbeng Clutched August 6, 2009 Share August 6, 2009 ==================== Wah this very dangerous . I think something is faulty cos I never heard of auto can that can start in D or R? Hmm for most of the time I think it's dangerous. But that day it was helping me. Coz my car ran out of petrol -> fuel gauge spoilt. So sometimes can start and then die off. then when I got it to start again it was in D and I quickly reach the next petrol station about 100metres away. Very difficult to explain. But if I had to put in P then can start....then jialat liao. Everytime start, need to stop the car. The car was basically rolling a bit, slowing down, rolling a bit.... Wow, that's wasteful and expensive. Why not use the battery till it almost die? monitor it using a voltmeter, if it drops to 12.2v then change. Not exactly assuring you know.
Trex101 3rd Gear August 18, 2009 Share August 18, 2009 Car have to be off. You need to release the residue/surface charge by switching on the headlight for 2-3 mins then check using voltmeter. This will show what charge your battery is holding. Something like that. ↡ Advertisement
