hahah then the gahmen also not stopid , maybe they come up with a system that says , 100k km on odo to classify as used , and odo to be checked yearly .or minimum 5 year old car from original date of registraion in JP to term as used and must have 100k km on odo .

Nobody here will buy 100k km imported vehicle. If tis rule is out, no more imported used ka. Only consumer on losing end as he won't know what is real OMV.

Parallel importers use revised rule to bring in high-end cars at cheaper prices

TALES of used cars passed off as new are rather old. But now, some parallel importers are declaring new cars as used - in what could be attempts to benefit from a revised ruling that inadvertently leads to lower taxes for imported second-hand cars.

Last September, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) lifted a barrier on imported used cars when it ruled such vehicles are eligible for scrap rebate, like new cars.

The rebate, paid by the Government to the owner if he scraps the car before its 10th year, can amount to several hundred thousand dollars for some cars.

Since September, about 60 imported used cars have been sold here, including a Rolls-Royce, Honda NS-X sports car and a stretched Chrysler limousine.

... ...

More People Drive Imported Car [rolleyes][rolleyes]

the last production NSX was at 2002... does that mean that the 2 year rule has also been lifted?

i.e. last time cannot import cars registered in that country that is more that 2 years old ....

so now can?! WOOTZ!!!!!

It's based on registration date. There's a 1990 toyota sera in NZ that has never been registered before and has less than 50kms on its odometer. It can be brought in as a new car if it meets emission standards.

it must not be more than 3yrs old upon registration here.....

dun forget the surcharge of $10k, + emission testing fee in foreign country.

may not be viable if the vehicle is of not any good value to be brought in.

i made a mistake... its 3 years .. not 2 years... [dead]

wells... its a wonder who would not register a NSX in any country....

sigh.. i tot for a moment LTA allowed cars registered more than 3 years in foreign country.... [smallcry]

It may be used as a track car, hence it's never registered.

Anyway, the key is depreciation per year. Not so much high OMV (AD) or low OMV (PI "used"), but dealer's markup that will most affect depreciation per year between the 2.

wats the point? omv is lower so is about the same. support, warranty, parts issues to worry about. anyway, if one can afford that kinda money, why not just pay more and have peace of mind?

If Sla can value a million dollar land as $1, to pay the owner,

if 6 years unwanted hdb flats in jw65 can still be sold as new flats.

if gov keeps saying Coe, food price, housing, etc are market demand and supply price.

why is it wrong for pi to bring in cheap and unwanted cars from japan?

A case of gov can do and say anything, but the citizens cannot?
