To me, it does look like a lady's car...Or perhaps all compact cars portray a feminine look to me, i guess...

When i was in air force, my PC drove a lime green Beetle, i was like omg... [dizzy]

I presume u are referring to the NEW beetle. If u are a girl, it looks like a girl's car. If u are a guy, then u will look gay. I know coz that car was my first car and I bought it coz my wife wanted it, so i gave in to her... biggest mistake I ever made... that car has HUGE quality issues. [shakehead] Trust me, the ladies will not be impressed....

I drove the 1.8T version. Here are the quality issues I faced (At one stage, I visited the AD almost every month!!!): [:(]

- Sunroof mechanism broke (not uncommon according to the AD).

- right (driver side) window mechanism broke - couldnt wind window for 1 MONTH as had to wait for parts to arrive from Germany

- Few months later the Left window mechanism broke!!!

- Horn did not work

- Side mirrors mechanism spoil - when I adjusted the left side, the rite side also moved!

- the tubes/hoses in the engine compartment started cracking one by one (the engine is just too hot!!) and I had to get them replaced.

- Windshield wiper fluid hose cracked - when I sprayed H20, my whole engine bay was soaked!

- Boot cannot close i.e. when u shut it, the locking mechanism malfunction and the boot popped open

- the last straw was when my BRAKES failed!!! I had to drive down my office carpark using only my handbrake to get to the tow truck.

Needless to say I was not impressed. [thumbsdown]

The car is assembled in Mexico mah. Much like ppl here comprain about the Japanese car assembled in Thailand.

I cannot help but think that this car is a ladies car cos whenever I come across teenage girl singers appear in MTV singing and driving it like some hip-mobile. Disney teenage girl movies also the same. It's a feminine kind of car. [laugh]

Hi, I also drive a VAG cars, and like to comment on the one or 2 quality issues ....

window mechanism - this is a inherent defect due to the material used. ( plastic instead of metal) As such , it is a worldwide problem affecting ALL Golf IV platform cars shakehead.gif

Side mirrors mechanism spoil - when I adjusted the left side, the rite side also moved!

this is not a defect. It's like this. You just have to adjust the left side first, then the right side unsure.gif

but i must say the rest of them sounded bad .... did your internal parts rattle as well ?? this is patented by VW, if it din rattle, it aint a veedub !! laugh.gif

well, the first gen new beetle is sure problematic. as they share the same platform as markIV Golf/Bora... you can imagine the problem is not confined to the new beetle.

of the problems you had,

power window mechanism failure - is a common problem among all the mk4 platform cars, ie. Golf, Bora, Octavia, SEAT Toledo, SEAT Leon, Beetle, A3, TT. Tho i am not sure if the problem is also faced by the Audis, but i think they will too since all of them are sharing the same parts. But the later batches (facelifted Beetle) should have this issue solved.

Windshield hose crack - well, mine didnt, but my reservoir broke.

tubes/hoses crack - this ... unfortunate, is only for the 1.8T, which you need to switch to SS diverter valve (popularly known as Baileys in the VAG forum)... where the japs use BOV, VW's turbo is better with DV.

Boot problem - ahhhh... mine was, cannot open.

Brakes failure - err, i wonder if you bled the DOT4 at 30k ... i had mine done and is lasted 5 years without problem. i did feel the brakes getting unresponsive, so i bled the brake lining and replace the DOT4 fluid.

I am not impressed with VW's quality (or the lack of it) issues either. That's why, no more VAG cars for me.
