A3 Sportback 1.8TFSI worth buying? any comments? whats the price now?

just went to take a look yesterday...

 

price is ard $119K with 2.38% interest,comes with option of 18" sports rims or 17" normal rims with $2k rebate.

 

other option is 90% loan with 1.98% interest.

 

the one at Stratmore showroom very nice.

2.38 is quite low now. only 2k rebate? i heard premium would usually give better offer? actually i was wondering whether A3 is more worth than 118i, their pricing are pretty close. hav u seen the 1-series? if its that close, i'd think that the 1 is a better buy,i guess... do u know the omv of a3?

have not seen the 1 series yet.they sent a mail to my gf regarding the details,and she is not in sg.

If I'm not wrong, OMV of A3 is abt 28K or so. Find the price a wee bit expensive for such OMV level.

OMV of 118i is 33K and the price only 116.8K. this would mean the mark up of A3 is at least 12-13K higher than the 118i..

Yah, thats really a high mark up for the a3 but judging from the performance and the equipment level, it has its upper hand as compared to the bavarian. However, i still reckon that the mark up doesn't seem to be justifiable. imho.

thats a step higher in terms of performance. guess its only fair to see the Golf GT or Jetta TSI to compare.

Well, a more hardcore fella would attract higher cost to own and to maintain.

at least the other 2 would have lower insurance premium... not exactly very sure tho...

Equipment level perhaps better. But performance wise I had my doubts its better than the 118i although cabin space wise the A3 beats 118i hands down.

The 118i 0-100 is around 10sec but the A3 1.8 is 8 sec flat. Hence performance wise, A3 is better

They no longer bringing in the A3 2.0FSI. Cost is too high (priced $14XK) and not selling well.

 

Guess most people will rather go for the golf gti with the same level of performance

You cannot just look at the 0-100 to gauge. Performance is not just abt 0-100. Road holding stability and handling are other aspects to look out for. The handling of the 118i is almost unrivalled by any luxury brands of similar vehicle class..If I just want a car that accelerate fast, I can just get the Golf GT which is even faster than the A3 and it cost a whopping 19K less and OMV almost equal. Dun even need to bring in both A3 and 118i to compare with each other..

hmmmm.... i always thin that audi just simply price their cars up up in the sky and aim squarely at BMW without bothering other attributes. its omv is always at a level comparable to its bro VW maybe just a small step up a li'l but the selling price is always much higher. thats what deter me from going near actually, not the performance or any other things. if u turn round & look at the B170, u'll find that its omv also around $28k to $30k but its at about say $10k less than the a3. of cos not comparing its performance in this case but....justifiable??

If I ever bought an audi, it will be from resale mkt and not from PA. If the mark up is just a few thousands higher than their rivals such as B170 and 118i, then I might still ignore it and chose it over their other rivals if I like it a lot..but the mark up is like over 10K higher which I find absolutely doesn't make sense for me to consider it at all..its way over a reasonable level alr..
