Here's a brief photo history of Mazda's previous rotary models that were seen in Singapore:

 

 

 

The earliest was the 1968 R100 Familia Coupe based on the Mazda 1000 Familia at that time. The Mazda 1000 was also Bertone designed just like its bigger 'sister', the 1500.

Then in 1971, a 626 was styled as a coupe, fitted with a rotary engine, and called the RX3 Savanna Coupe.

In 1972, Mazda fitted the then 929 with the rotary, and called it, RX4 Luce Coupe.

Then in 1975, as the rotary Mazdas gained popularity in the US, Mazda continued with the rotary option as the 929 grew up. This one reinvoked the Cosmo name - RX5 Cosmo Coupe.

And, today's RX8 with the Renesis (cross between 'revolutionary' and 'genesis' ???) rotary engine.

AND, how can we tell the Mazda rotary engine story without including the amazing Mazda 787B which created Le Mans history by being the ONLY rotary engined race car, and the FIRST Japanese manufacturer to win the 24-hour 1991 Le Mans Classic!!! thumbsup.gifthumbsup.gifthumbsup.gif
