SINGAPORE: The air along Robertson Quay has finally been cleared. And the source of the offending stench a 1m-thick layer of sludge lining the bed of the Singapore River has been removed, giving the area a breath of fresh air.

The years of muck that lined a 50m stretch of riverbed could have been due to dead leaves, litter and silt discharged from nearby worksites, especially after rain, said a PUB officer during a media briefing at the quayside on Monday.

The sludge fronting the Red House at The Quayside had been assailing the nostrils of visitors, patrons and tenants for the last three months. And while the PUB assured that the air is clean again, the agency would

The challenge made by the old man long ago to clean up the river and HAVE IT CLEANED in record time, has apparently not been taken to task by the younger prince made Emperor to have it 'maintained clean' [sly][laugh][laugh][laugh][laugh] ....

Talk about complacency! [laugh][laugh][laugh]

Guess he did not google or check out from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia what our Singapore River means -

The Singapore River is a small river in Singapore with great historical importance. The Singapore River flows from the Central Area, which lies in the Central Region in the southern part of Singapore before emptying into the ocean. The immediate upper watershed of the Singapore River is known as the Singapore River Planning Area, although the northernmost part of the watershed becomes River Valley. As the Central Area is treated as a central business district, nearly all land surrounding it is commercial. It is one of about 90 rivers in Singapore and its islands.

Geography

The Singapore river is 11 km long from its source at Kim Seng Bridge, but the waterway extends, as Alexandra Canal, as far as the junction of Commonwealth Avenue. Here there is a break until North Buona Vista Road where Sungei Ulu Pandan starts and flows into Sungei Pandan which in turn flows into the sea at West Coast Park. Thus, the source of both these waterways is in the Queenstown, Ridout Road Estate and Tanglin Halt area near Margaret Drive.

I'm surprised that the last time they ever cleaned up this long kang was quite long ago... Since this long kang runs through the very heart of the town and itself is a tourist spot, it should be regularly maintained right?
