SUVs plunge toward 'endangered' list

art.suv.saleslot.gi.jpg From Chris Lawrence

CNN

LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) -- Jorge Fernandez strolls across the used-car parking lot littered with dozens upon dozens of sport utility vehicles the size of small tugboats.

With gas at $4 a gallon, many have sat there since last summer.

"The cars are literally just sitting, and it doesn't matter how much you sell them for," Fernandez says of the SUVs and trucks nobody wants anymore.

"It's amazing. I've never seen it this bad -- ever."

Fernandez, a wholesale auto dealer who has been in the business for more than 20 years, says SUV owners are hit especially hard. The really large ones with V-8 engines that can get as little as 12 miles per gallon in the city -- like the Cadillac Escalade, Ford Expedition and Chevy Suburban -- are dropping in value by the thousands. video.gif Watch the sinking value of guzzlers

$4 per gallon???

hmm...convert to SG lets see how much

USD$4 = 4 x 1.38 = SG$5.52

1 Gallon = 3.8L

1 L = SG$5.52 / 3.8L

= $1.452 per Litre.... [jawdrop][jawdrop][jawdrop] thats even much much cheaper than our diesel...

we kenna [knife][knife] by our cartels liao... [shakehead][shakehead][shakehead]

so will it affect the prices of SUVs locally?

Dramatic falls in prices?

This topic has already been discussed. Bascially, Singaporean buy SUV partly for "snob" appeal, want that high up feeling and a false sense of security that come with a taller and bigger car. I doubt the impact is great here. A study was made in Canada that most Asian origins would likely to buy SUVs.

when i looked at the title of this thread, i tot u were refering to our situation in SG

If we look at the many MPVs/SUVs on our roads, we can only tell that Singaporean generally like big cars. Poor me, still driving a small car [laugh].

though gas is cheaper in States compared to Spore, long distance commute can hurt the pocket real bad.

so doesn't mean that places with cheaper gas is better off than S'pore.

With the increase in petrol, has anyone seen a significant drop in vehicles on the road in Spore?

Or less SUV/MPV in particular?
