FAULTY cashcards or faulty in-vehicle units (IUs) which fail to register at the Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) gantries are continuing to bother motorists.

 

Since The Straits Times (ST) reported two weeks ago that 300 motorists a month either paid the $10 fine or jumped through the requisite hoops with the authorities to get these fines waived, more have come forward to say that they too are being plagued by the problem.

 

ST spoke to 17 of them.

 

They said that although the fines are dropped when they go to the Land Transport Authority (LTA) to explain why they did not pay the ERP charges, they are frustrated with the time and effort it takes to get the fine waived.

 

When contacted, the LTA and the Network for Electronic Transfers (Nets), which issues the cashcards, would only say they were working together on a logistical solution for motorists, but gave no details.

 

It is still unclear where the problem lies - with the cashcards or the IUs, and motorists are getting frustrated.

 

Mr Francis Chua, 51, for example, told ST that he paid the fine the first time it happened, but has since made seven trips to the LTA office to get fine waivers.

 

He said that each of these seven times, LTA sent him to licensed vehicle inspection centres like Vicom to get his cashcard and IU checked, to confirm that it was a technical problem and not because his cashcard had insufficient funds.

 

Only then would his fines be waived.

I wonder if the pple who maintain the system already know who is to blame but don't want to rock the boat cos then it cud lead to a class action suit against the guilty party.

 

Is it another case of sourcing for the cheapest supplier to maximize profits at the expense of quality & the consumers?

And who is supposed to bear these costs of time wasted & inconvenience to motorists every time the "system" fails?

 

The motorists sud b duly compensated cos it looks like a hardware or software defect here. The motorist r totally innocent & yet they have to bear these costs.

 

Like that can the motorist just ignore the "summons" to pay & wait for the service providers to try to take them to court? The motorist will surely win the case unless the playing field is again not level.

CASE chia liao bee!!before you ask them to solve your problem. They also collect $50 first than they talk to you and not fight for you. So you win or not also not their problem. Somemore their head is one of them wearing white sitting in PM mtg. so you think he dare to shoot or not

I think we can all agree that the best "logistical solution" is to shut down all ERP gantries until the problem is solved and affected ppl compensated. Or else the problem will continue to drag for who knows how long.

Its crap...We should publicise this $^$#& failed system to the world...I wonder why LTA feel so damn proud about the ERP system..It just DOESN"T work!
