Supersonic

Blk 10 Sin ming. Leun Seng Engineering. they skim, as they are an engineering shop. you can see them boring ship engines or big truck engines. but them you need to DIY and remove the rotor yourself.

I don't think it's worth the $$ to skim the rotor, better to replace them.

A OEM rotor from Brembo should be around $100+

I also dont think it is good to skim the rotor as it may become too thin and warps even easier, replacement make more sense in the long run.

hey, i bought spark plugs from you long long time ago.

any idea where to buy and install oem brembo rotor? i am using the stock brembo set of evo9 actually. skimming is recommended by a reputable wksp, but they quoted me very high , hence i am exploring if can do outside.

yes, you can, no not you can, you must as the Rotor is also a wear and tear item that needs to be replace, of course not as often as the brake pads.

A rule of thumb, if the rotor is having a wear of about 4mm or more, best is to change it. You can use your finger, only when the brakes are cold, not when you have just stop driving sweatdrop.gifsweatdrop.gifsweatdrop.gif to touch the edges for the wear. Most stock cars are having single or some dual pot calipers that are being push from inside, so if you are having a wear of about 4mm on the outside of the rotor, the inner part will have a much higher wear sweatdrop.gifsweatdrop.gifsweatdrop.gif

Original stock Rotor from AD will be much more ex than stockists of Original stock Rotor for whatever car make but Brembo (being a brake specialists) OEM Rotor will be of better quality than Original stock Rotor and will give a better grip thumbsup.gifthumbsup.gifthumbsup.gif prices could also be cheaper than stockists nod.gifPosted ImagePosted Image

I cannot imagine a wear of 4mm on one side of the rotor and people are still using it. The nissan primera service manual states front ventilated disc rotor should be changed when the rotor thickness drop by 2 mm (both sides add together)

Thickness Inspection

Using a micrometer, check thickness of the disc rotor. If the thickness is outside the standard, replace the disc rotor.

Measurement point:

At a point 10 mm (0.39 in) from the outer edge of the disc.

Standard thickness : 28.0 mm (1.102 in)

Wear limit : 26.0 mm (1.024 in)

Maximum uneven wear (measured at 8 positions):0.02 mm (0.0008 in) or less

So I estimate it should be changed if it is down by 1 mm from the outside. The specs for rear disc rotor is from 16 mm down to 14 mm, also two mm wear.

(edited)

I think it depends on the model of rotors. My stock ones are damn thick. Its already worn down about 2mm and looks like there's hellavu lot more to go. But compared to my ex-colleague's (think his is brembos), he is down about 1mm and you can see that the slots are almost gone..... and the rotors are pretty thin to begin with.

I know the stock ones are very thick, 26 mm is very thick (includes the ventilation gap) but still below a certain thickness, it gets warped easily, You cannot used the disk rotors until the metal is paper thin. If when you step the brakes at high speeds and noticed your steering vibrates, it is time to change the rotors.

Bro, can recommend your "kang tao" for cheap rotors??? The price you've mentioned is very good and I'd like to get a set since I'm due for a change...... [;)]
